My computer and Counter strike Source

ok so basically all that i have gotten from this is that its not INTEL...and something is fucked up.....from this i can conclude that i should just go with another mobo...this was a somewhat cheap 75 dollar asus board......yalls suggestion then is to just buy a new mobo and try that out correct...cuz my cpu runs fine in other machines.....just get a new motherboard and try that....

but explain this...i would do that except my brothers intel cant play source that well either and he has an x800 has it on all the settings the card wants and he gets low teens as well....im fuckin stuck...i have people telling me to go amd..not go amd and no waste the money......id love to just go get a top reated mobo and problems be fixed but explain why just randomly my bros intel sucks too and has a decent card.....this just isnt making sense anymore lol....

Ok, you've made me go and do it... I'm loading up CSS right now, and I will report back to this thread my settings and FPS. Your system is waaaaaaaaaay better than mine... here goes.

Find out your CPU temp under load.
It can't possibly be 288FF... get a different temp monitor and run Prime95 for a couple hours.
Or restart the computer quickly and check the BIOS temps fast as you can, after running Prime95

There should be no reason to upgrade to an AMD processor if you are using that Intel processor. You wouldn't even notice the difference in todays games.

been about 10 minutes now..says it will take an hour....speed fan is saying

temp1 : 37c
temp 2: 67c
temp 3: 55 c
temp 4 32c

smartguardian (another temp moinitoring prgram...

CPU 285 F
PWMIC 492 F
chipset 140 F

the cpu on smartguardian is goin from 280-287.....its changing quite fast too....is my cpu really 285 degrees F right now??? ill show screen shots.....see sittin here smartfan just went up another degree.....

the top of my north bridge is hott as shit....i have it running outside the case now with some air blowing on it to keep it cool.....better then inside my little case....that box is realll hot....maybe i should get a north bridge cooler.....but this test is still runnin btw... bout a half hour left id guess..

aight the temps i metioned above were pretty much that for the whole test...maybe alittle hotter but not much.....u think its the heat slowing it down....maybe the answer is better heatsink and newer mobo....is that a safe estimate?

maybe its just heat thats killing it...

i know its not the same motherboard but ill post an experience I had that was similar to yours.
On my old school ABIT KD7-RAID there was a point where it wouldnt boot fully it would post run a few seconds and turn off. well the north bridge went out and when I put my laser thermometer on it the northbridge would hit 235f within a few seconds and thats what kept it from booting up.
you may wanna call tech support and see if they would consider your board faulty and send you a new one.

K, I just finished downloading it all and played some dust2. HDR @ Full, AA @ 2x, AF @ 4x, Vsync on, all other settings on high, I set my max_fps to 70.

I get between 50-70 FPS. Big firefights it dips into the 40's. Without the cap on FPS, I get over 100 in some places.

It's not your hardware at all.

doesnt explain why quake4 runs like shit...or bf2....its hardware thats all there is to it....gotta go amd i guess...nothing else is working

If you buy into that load of BS you just spewed, I got some ocean front property in arizona I'd like to sell ya ;)

how good is coolmax? maybe its broken in, and its efficiency etc.. are dying/goin to crap?

if u dont have a strong PSU ive heard u will get choppy and slower perf. and who uses Vsync that cuts down on FPS, from what ive read anyways.

Im not sure if someone mentioned this but.. Update the bios on the board and make sure all of your systems drivers are up to date. I built a beast of a rig to play BF2 and I had endless issues with the game. I was pissed because I dumped an assload of money into a machine powerful enough to play the game. To make a really long story short.. My asus P5LD2 board had an out of date bios and an out of date audio driver. Both causing shading issues while playing BF2. Give it a try.. I didnt think an audio driver would affect shading but after speaking with someone from ATI's tech support we determined the issue

Reformat, and install Forceware 81.98 drivers ONLY. Install 3DMark 05 and run it at default settings. See what you get.

If that turns out fine, install sound drivers.

Run it again.

Keep doing things step by step till you find where the problem is.

im gunna try the bios again and see where that gets me.....maybe theres hope...maybe buy a north bridge cooler, cuz nothing should be hot enough to actaully burn me...

Alright. Just taught myself how to update bios from a floppy. All went ok, version 0703 now. Still no difference in performance in windows, didn't do a thing. I'm going to try the reformat and one driver at a time. we'll see how that goes.

wow holleluya(spelling)

ok guys update:

reformatted again...and just installed 81.98 drvers ran 3dmark and i scored 7k again....now im gunna do one by one and find the problem....right now its running fine....so its either chipset drivers...or sound drivers fucking it up....

ok im at the end of the rope and i dont know what to do anymore....i can tell if its the game or my computer.....

specs:

320GB WD 7200 rpm hard drive
7800gtx 495/1300 with the fatal1ty gpu cooler on it
550 watt coolmax PSU
ASUS P5GL MX socket T lga 775 micro atx mobo
3.4 GHZ LGA 775 prescott intel processor
2 gb PQI Turbo RAM (2x 1gb)

in my opinion that should pretty much run any game.....

in source with everything on LOW and dxlevel 70 im still get around 60-70 FPS.....on all settings on high i get around 50......ive tweaked and tweak so many times...i even have my own config that has every "boosting fps" config i could find on the internet and i still cant get anywhere.....

whats choking it? is it my motherboard??? what should i change in my set up...becuase i know people that play source that have much much worse gfx cards then i do and get 100+ fps in game....i should be getting around 300 fps.....

HELP!!!!!!

-far

ps. ive been dealing with this for awhile and this is NOT normal for my set up...i built this to play games flawlessly and....so far its horrible....my 9300 laptop from dell performed better...

I say format, or competly reinstall steam and reinstall video drivers (try reverting to a different one then you are using now).

If quake 4 runs horrid at low settings, It sounds like either a Bad driver install or bad card. Format try a different driver set and if problem continues please contact the manufactorer of your video card.

FIXED!!!!!!

hell yes..thanks fellas....all i did was reformat and install everything but the chipset drivers...and boom...done

yesssss quake 4 runs sweet now....thanks for all the help guys w00t

Yay, now say it with me, nice and slow... FUCK SPENDING MONEY! feels good don't it?!

haha werd...

1000 view 60 some posts later.....and to think i was about to go spend all that money on amd....shiiiit that was close..

My P4 2.8C @ 3.6ghz, 6800GT @ 406/1150, 512x2 PQI Turbo and Raptor struggled with any Source game. I ditched the P4 and picked up an Opteron 165, it's like a entirely different world with gaming. No hiccups, smooth gameplay and fast loading. My CPU bottlenecked the piss out of my system. Try upgrading.
