I got my PPU yesterday after much personal debate...

I also recorded a Cellfactor demo which highlights some of the Clothtearing and Fluid effects (these 2 effects are PPU required) Just ignore the lame credits at the end :)

If you guys watch the video, you will notice a slight hitch right before the large explosion... I am not sure what the exact cause for that is, but it is somewhat annoying. Is anyone else getting this?

Check out my video here:

Here is a picture of my card:

The hitch is cellfactor's doing (something about that explosion effect) and not something you will see with the ppu in general based on goofing around with large amounts of physics objects. =P

lol, you're the guy that did that sweeny interview ;o)

Lotta lag when you use alot of that ppu its lookin like, eew. That flag you threw something at and then shot was quite cool though.

haha, i was going to metion the coolness of the flag too. I dunno, looked pretty good.

Try watching the FPS when gaming and then when gaming and recoding video via FRAPS ;)
Have to stream highrate videdata to your HD while gaming puts a toll on your system ;)
I know it in general cuts my FPS with 50-70% when recording...

But nice video, thanks for the time and effort :)

ummmm, seems everyones joining in the fun, hard forums seem to have become the epicentre for PPU discussion lol, in regards to your query about the slight hitch you seem to be getting I am also experiancing a simular problem, *but* only usally with the first large explosion after that it's usaully fine, it seems once it's cached the first explosion and actions it runs alot smoother.

Makes you wonder if that could be pre-cached then...

I don't know why this is getting bashed in other threads. It looks incredibly cool to play.

Awesome video. Seeing those boxes and pipes moving around makes me think to the contraptions I put together in HL2 with Gary's Mod. The damn computer would soil itself if I had more than a few dozen zombies or ballons moving around.

Because its $300.00 for it and it seems that nobody has plans for any real use for a PPU for the next year or so. They are worse off than the original voodoo cards. Quake and a few other games had support for the voodoo, in the beginning.... Killer add-on card + killer game with support = win.

Right now the PPU has cellfactor, which I admit is rather cool... But for $300.00? People are going to bash on it till some mouth-watering game comes along and blows us away with kick-ass PPU support.

If something like TA Spring + C&C Generals with oblivion style graphics and WoW gameplay was made and was made to fully utilize the PPU not only for eye-candy but for actual game physics, then id jump up right now and buy one.

nice video. I've never seen it with a PPU (aside from demo)

Fluid effects for blood don't look that great IMO. There's like too much, and from the videos I've seen it just looks too thick. It should just be a thin layer that stays on the ground and maybe moves a little... and gets on peoples feet making blood footprints.

Cloth tearing is nice.

and the guy in your credits has 11 fingers on one hand... that's fucked up.

Nice job on a good video. The cloth effects are nice but the fluid is really, really bad looking. Fluid that unrealistic has the exact opposite effect of the PPU, it decreases immersion.

I think the fluid sim just needs smaller particles, and more of them, plus stronger attraction between them (so you don't get so many individual particles rolling around on their own). It certainly wouldn't look realistic, but at least it'd look cool (as is the case with that Airtight Games tech demo ).

Jakup , awesome video , excelent music as well. Thanks for all of the info you keep us up to date with. I am a big fan of all you do and I also loved the interview with Tim Sweeny. Thanks brother , its great to have some one like you in the community!
