I have the Antec vsk2000 and just tossed in whatever fans I had when I first got it. Now I am doing some gaming again and more processor intensive media work so I am looking at optimizing the cooling and maybe a moderate OC. Here is my hardware in a nutshell
Corsair 450watt PSU (120mm fan)
q6600 quad core
8gb generic ram
8500gt, passively cooled
3 sata hard drives
my cooling equipment consists of the tricool that came with it and a couple of other tricool 120mm fan I pulled from an old antec case and a generic one I had laying around for the HDD intake fans. I have a cheap Coolermaster CPU cooler but am goign to pull a zalman 9500 from another PC over to this box for the CPU. I also applied some stick on sound deadener to the sides, top and bottom of the case to reduce noise. I know this can also trap heat so I want to be sure I am getting good cooling inside.
My plan is to add a fan controller like this 4 channel option, upgrade the fans to 3 reasonable quality 120mm like the Yate Loons. I am not sure what fans to go for. I like a low noise PC but am fine getting some higher CFM fans like the SlipStreams and using the fan controller to notch them back when not gaming.
so thats the plan. Looks like about $30 for the SS fans, $15 for the controller and $10 for some paste comes to around $55. So, are there any suggestions to improve my plan? Would my money be better spent being applied to a starter liquid cooling solution or should I stay with the traditional air cooling? I am not looking to break the bank but if I could get the beginning of a liquid system to cool the CPU and expand it alter to the GPU I would consider that.
