i have a radeon 9500np 64mb. and a recent reformat with windows xp.
i installed all the drivers from its disk, then installed the drivers from ati.com, it gave me 2 drivers to dl and install is this correct? along witht the NET version 1.1 framework thing.

so everything appears to befine, everything works and looks great, then i try some games, i start them up and they freeze up with what ever sound that was going on at that time looping. the the screen turns black and comes back to the game where it just freezes up again.

another game just freezes and doesnt do anything else, making me restart (hl2)

is this my video cards fault?

please help!!!!!1
 
What games are you trying to play?

The game does matter a lot especially if it is HL2 or Doom3.
 
Hrm, you installed both drivers? I would personnaly get Driver Cleaner and wipe your drive clean of the ATI drivers. Then go get the drivers from www.ati.com that say they have just the control panel and not the CCC. Try those and also make sure you've updated everything else such as Windows Updates, Sound card drivers, etc.

persay, wouldnt reformatting do the same thing, cause i reformatted and i still have the same problem...
 
AGP gart/mobo drivers installed?

disable Fastwrites

disable VPU recover in ATI driver control panel

do you have instability in other applications besides games?

are you overclocking?
