assuming no one points out some catastrophic mismatch, or some incompatibility that will piss me off.... i'm ready to order.

also: will i have to anything besides plug it all together... i know that sounds silly, but i've been reading and have become confused about timing the ram and such.

2 graphic cards on a p5ke ? its not a sli board .

It's irrelevant because the cards aren't able to be run in SLI anyway. He's just using the second card (in the secondary 16x physical 4x electrical slot) to run more monitors.

OP, aside from my usual "ASUS is the devil" rant, everything looks fine. You might want to swap out the Seagates for the faster new single platter 320GB WD drives instead.

He is not using the board to do sli. He is using a small low-powered graphics card to power his 2nd and 3rd monitors. He will probably do things like instant messaging and web browsing on these monitors instead of gaming.

Why not forgo the 2nd video card, and use the matrox triple head2go digital edition to game on all three monitors at once? This way, you have periphial vision while playing the game.

http://techgage.com/article/matrox_triplehead2go_digital_edition/

This shows how it could really help your gaming.

The resolution limit on the Triple Head 2Go really kills it anymore. Very few people are willing to deal with such a low per-display limit.

He does not need an SLI board to run 2 x PCI-E video cards as he will not be running those cards in SLI. His main concern is just an additional PCI-E slot for the 8500GT card for the 3rd monitor. Correct me if I am wrong on this.

Nevermind. Hehe

you guys are correct about not needing sli.
hell, im used to playing q3 in 1024x768 with picmip turned up... so one 22" monitor powered by an 8800 will be heaven.

will i have any problems if i have

[ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ]

2 is powered by the 8800
1/3 are powered by the 8500

2 will be the game monitor.
1/3 will be used for im/web/tools etc.

You can do this also, just get a cheap PCI video card with 64-128MB RAM for your 3rd monitor since your doing only simple stuffs on the 3rd monitor. But, an 8500GT would be faster and still cheap anyway. Just a suggestion.

AARH! :p pay attention. the 2nd card will be running the two monitors.. assuming thats possible.

lol... when I read wolf2009's reply, I was thinking, "oh no, here we go again..." :p

Yes, its possible to run the two flanking monitors with the 8500GT.

Anyhow, it looks good to me.

If getting the RC-690 is only a $5-$10 difference, I'd suggest going with it instead -- its slightly bigger, giving you slightly more room to work with.

Does anyone know for a fact that the Ultra120extreme will fit in the 590?

also, is EPP ready ram necessary? its an extra $20

Nope. Its for the lazy people who can't go into their BIOS to set the RAM settings manually.

EDIT: you and your ninja edits... You don't need an 8800GTS for dual DVI. Go with any 256MB dual DVI card in the low end 8000 series (to keep the drivers simple). For example:
$95 - XFX PVT84JUDD3 GeForce 8600GT 256MB ($30 MIR)

It doesnt have to be BFG. All nvidia cards use nvidia drivers, which are non-specific to the manufacturer.

BFG is actually my least favorite of the "big 3" Nvidia distributors. I much prefer EVGA and XFX to BFG.

wait....isn't the Q9450 a 40mn chip, and the asus p5k can't take 40mn chips correct??

ha, ninja edits make me look sane.

awesome info. i figured staying bfg would save me headaches, but really just staying nvidia will do.

where can i get black or led yate loons cheap. i want 6.

edit: can anyone confirm the size of the 590 fitting the ultra120? i really prefer the 590 vs the 690.
here is a pic of ZEROtherm BTF90 92mm Silent UFO CPU Cooler :http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/MadCow809/PC/CM590/Photo-0049.jpg

Q9450 is a 45nm Yorkfield of the Penryn family of chips. P965 Express doesnt officially support the Penryn family, nor 1333Mhz FSB chips, therefore Intel released the P35 Express, of the bearlake family chipset. So, in short, P5K was made for 45nm. ;)
