Im trying to OC ram / cpu in increments to get stable timings with a moderate overclock.

What ive done so far which worked untill I wnt to mess with cpu multiplyer was:

1:1 for 2.0-3-3-8
200 fsb with default multiplyer (comes out to be 10.5 for 2100ghz)
Vcore @ 1.725
Vdimm @ 2.9

stable set up (prime95 12 hour test with no errors on a custum test to maximize cpu and ram)

Okay, I start to play with timings and was able to them down to 2-2-2-6 without issues, prime 95 returns errors after 15 - 50 minutes. So I put them back to stable settings and move to cpu oc figuring I can play with timings once I get things faster.

I start by taking the fsb up to 210......System wont post.....
Reset everything and try 200 x 10.5...System wont post....
Reset everything and try 210 x 10......System wont post....
Reset everything and try default settings....system loads just fine.

Reboot and try 200x10.5 @ 1.80 Vcore....System wont post....
Reset and try 210x10 @ 1.82 Vcore ..... System wont post.....
Reset and try 210 X Default @ 1.80 Vcore.....System loads, excempt once windows loads it flakes out and then will with half work or just lock up.

With 3 different FSB settings on default multiplyer system will load windows but with the same problem, it will flake out on me.

My main question relates to the not posting when I manually input the multiplyer, 200 x 10.5 is the only way I know of for the default multiplyer setting to hit 2100 GHZ.... yet it wouldnt post even with a vcore of 1.8. I tried a 1.85 setting as well with no luck.

At the base stable settings system runs perfectly. Any one ever encounter an issue like this? or could provide some information as to what I'm doing wrong?

The first time I left the mult. at default FSB was at 220 and system booted okay, and waited longer to flake out on me, I was able to pull up Hardware Doctor and CPU-z. CPU-z showd the 2.3 ghz and 420 mhz memory frequency, but shortly after the start menu wouldnt come up, and then things just started locking up. Temperatures peaked on the 2.3 settings at 35C for cpu and 28c for system. :rolleyes:

Suggestions? :confused:
 
Might be a bad CPU. Try dropping the multiplier real low and upping the FSB to make sure the RAM is cool. If it is the CPU, RMA that piece. Might also try running Memtest86 on the RAM to check it out.

Hmmmm, hadnt thought that the cpu would be bad, its only a few months old itself. After memtest hits 100% coverage ill reboot and try to underclock it and see what happens. I'll run mem test / prime95 all night on my stable settings to see what they return.

EDIT:

FSB 200 X 6 for 1.4 and got no post (system LED said it was holding on "detecting memory presence". Did you mean go under 1 ghz or is 700 under main speed enough?

I know the ram is good, Its 4 months old and aside from running in mine without issue it worked great in a friends computer as well.

I wouldnt think its the proc as it runs beautifully at default speed, although I wont rule it our for sure yet. The board is also fairly new, replaced old one with same one about 6-7 months ago. It ran my old proc without issue aside from older proc ran hotter so I went with better barton for cooler temp / better cache. I'll run prime 95 / mem test and post results in the morning.

AFAIK the mobile chips were the only ones factory unlocked. Did you unlock your chip? relax all of your mem timings, keep your multiplier at 10.5, and push your FSB up some more. Go to 210 x 10.5 for 2200 speeds
 
i used to have a lanparty.. i broke it when i took it out of my case tho...
start with feeding the north bridge the max voltage...and do not use a divider
also look into the hellfire bios and bios savior
 
Hmmm dont know why I didnt think of it as being locked before. Makes sense. Ill give what you say a try as to keeping mult at 10.5 but every time I take the mult of default it wont post, even if its going to put it at the same speed as the system's default specs. Or the same as default has it.

After I flush the cmos the fsb is at 100 with default mult = 2.1 ghz, wouldnt default have to change the mult to reach that speed? or is there another way?

Thats the chip I have now, not mobile so unlocking seems to be the solution.

As to unlocking would you know of a good guide / which meathod would you use? I know you can paint silver on the l2, connecting pins with wire, and wire in the socket. I think the wire in socket would be fine since im not really trying to increase my multiplier, but im not sure which holes as every guide ive looked at seems to show different sockets for barton processors.
 
cant unlock.. your stuck with whatever you get for fsb ramping 10.5 isnt a bad multiplier... do what you can and be happy with high fsb.. if it goes high mobiles go so high on the voltage your at because they start off at lower voltage... as well as there more...perfect
try 1.80v with good cooling
 
get fsb as high as you can go your on water cooling ... feed that 1.90v :D
 
Ah, I can do that but, system doesnt remain stable for very long after boot. I'll give it a whirl after work and let you know what happens.
 
Well, I was able to slowly take fsb / vcore up to 210 and get windows and everything working just fine. loaded up warcraft 3 for a little dota, after almost an hour for some reason I lag out. Thats a first for me so I exit bnet and the program hits a memory error. Okay Reboot to lax memory timings, tone them back from 2-2-2-11 back to the 2-3-3-8 that was extreemly stable on the 200 fsb. Reboot and system freezes on windows load....reset everything to be back at stable settings same issue. power computer off and on and window's loads.

Not sure why it was working for a while this time over last times attempts. but at 1.775 vcore I got fsb to 210 and vdimm at 2.9 with everything going okay till I quit bnet and rebooted. I left the mult. on default which is 10.5
 
makes me glad i didnt buy corsair xms with intentions to overclock to 250+ mhtz.. i feel for you tho.... i got pc2700 that wont beat 215
