Hey im just worried about my CPU it idoles around 100C which i dont have a problem with. but when i run prime it gete up to about 142 C is the highest ive seen it. which is about 60C. In my opinion thats way to hot i dont know what else i can really do for the wc Except get a shroud for the rad and maybe take my time and install it perfectly. Are these temps to high that they will damage the CPU. I DO NOT WANT TO FRY MY CPU.

its a newcastle core too.
cool'n quiet is enabled anybody know exactly what that does?
 
I do believe you mean 142F....

Also, here are some things to try:

Make sure the hs/f is making perfect contact (re seat it)

Apply an ultra thin layer of AS3/5/Ceramique (I assume you have)

Make sure fan is running at full rpms you want

Make sure a bios setting isn't throttling the fan speed

Bios temps could just simply be inaccurate
 
hes not using a hsf, so why would it matter what some of the fan settings in the bios were?
 
If your watercooling your system then yes, 60c is high for a load. Unless you have some crazy overclock with high voltages. AMD Cool & Quiet basically all it does is lower your vcore and clock speed when the cpu isnt being used. It can lower your vcore lower then 1.3, but it can also drop your cpu speed lower then 50%. Its not a bad feature, but it can make your system much slower to respond to requests, because it takes a second to kick the cpu speed up when it needs it.

The MSI boards do not read Newcastle cores right. Also flash to the lastest bios bios should fix the temp problem. Is the block hot/buring to touch?
 
well the block isnt that hot to touch and im nto using the bios im using the little heat monitor that comes with the x-dreamer 2 case. i have AS5 on it and im thinking the fact i have no shroud is the reason for high temps.
 
a shroud would only lower the temps a few degrees C at most, that wouldn't be the main problem.
 
well as of nwo i have no shroud and the rad is gonan eb mounted on the bottom of the case and its only raised off the bottom a fraction of an ince i hope to have it permanitly raised at least 3/4 of an ince and get a shroud. that should help.
