In Neverwinter nights at 1152x864 full detail and 2x AA, I will get major artifacts. They are not too noticeable, only when I am talking to someone, not so distracting when I am in the heat of battle. Usually they start happening about 10 minutes into the game.

I'll put my hand up to the case fan that blows air out, and the air is warm, but not hot. It will only get hot after hours of IL-2 Sturmovik (full detail 1024x768), cuz that game is very detailed. But I do not get artifacts in that game. I can also play CoD for 4 hours and no artifacts (all full detail, 1152x764)

Now when I play Deus Ex 2, I get major artifacts, even in 800x600. I can play Colin Mcrae rally 3 in 1280x1024 full detail 2x AA, no slowdown, play for about an hour and no artifacts at all.

Another game is 1942 Desert combat mod. Lots of bots, lots of detail, no artifacts. Same goes with Raven Shield, no artifacts in that game either.

So basically I only get artifacts in Neverwinter Nights and Deus Ex 2, but the card is not overheating....I wonder what is causing this?

I am using 4.1 drivers, but am too lazy to check if it happens on earlier versions. Anyone have the same problem?

RMA the card

wow that answer is helpful...

st4rk u should try using earlier version of vid drivers. If other games runs fine just not those 2 then it might not be a hardware problem.

im sorry but i run that same game just fine with my 9800pro sounds like something is wrong with the cooling on HIS card therefor he should RMA it get another ....save yourself the time/effort.

i get artifacts too playing deus ex, but no artifacts in any other game. its probably cuz my oc.

i agree that if you havent modded it and its not overclocked right now to rma it. how much airflow do you have through your case though? it has to be that its overheating

It's gonna be tough to RMA. I think I am gonna wait it out and buy a new ATI card when they come out with the new chips.

It definitely cannot be overheating after just 10 minutes of play! Yes, I boot my computer, go right into NWN or Deus Ex 2 and it starts.

Like I said, I can play CoD and IL-2 FB, both graphically intense, for hours on end with no artifacts.

But it's nice to hear that other people get artifacts too.

You never said if your overclocking if you aren't then you got a problem

It could just be a driver bug or the games not getting along with some particular setting. My 9100, for example, has substantial issues in some games w/ 2x AA. I'd try messing around with AA/AF and performance/quality settings and then try a different driver.

my system started hard locking playing quake games all of a sudden. turns out punkbuster updated and the update had a major problem with my gf3 det driver, and i had to roll back.

thankfully you're problem isn't as mission critical as the one i dealt with, but i'd still look to drivers / game developers before thinking the card is bad.

when i had my problem, i could play single player q3 games all day long, but when i fired up multiplayer, the system would hard lock after joining a server on wolf, enemy territory, sof2, etc...

if other games work flawlessly for hours on end, its not a temperature or a hardware issue. it sounds to me like a software issue.

could be the game or its settings, your cards drivers or its settings, or even operating system settings that could cause a problem in some games but not others.

i'd start with your catalyst drivers. then look at forums to see if anyone else is having that issue.

good luck
