First off, Dell customer service was outstanding... I had some shipping concerns which they checked on and addressed for me (Website required Next Day shipping to Hawaii) whereas the CSR said Ground was OK. (Next Day for 2 Panels was $90) Ground ended up being $29 - and the Kicker is that I received it Today (Monday) and ordered it this past Friday. So the shipping ended up being Next Day. DHL delivered.
This is just some quick impressions, and not a full review.
1. Panel setup was very quick and easy - 10 Minutes from DHL delivery to being up and running on the first panel. Including moving the old CRT, unpacking the box, setting up and installing drivers/software & configuration, for a single panel. Had the second up and running in just over 5. (1st was set up on an Analog system. 2nd is using DVI)
2. I used monitorsdirect.com's online calibration tester. No dead/stuck pixels for either panel. There is slight Ghosting noticable on the Ghosting test (Following 4 moving squares that are white against a Black Background.)
3. I'm very pleased with how Black the blacks colors display, as I was a little concerned from reading reviews of many other LCDs and learning that many tend to display darker shades of gray.
4. Text reading (Adobe PDFs and Word Documents) is extremely good an easy on the eyes. (ClearType is enabled - have not tried it w standard settings yet.)
5. Played Far Cry for about 5 minutes. Initially I ran the game at 1024x768 as this was my default CRT setting. The visuals looked pretty good. I changed the game resolution to 1280x1024 (710T Native) and the visuals looked stunning.
One note - I can see very minor ghosting in Far Cry, definitely nothing that would detract from gameplay. (At least on Far Cry - yes, I have read other members complaints about CS and some older games. I don't normally play these, so I don't have an opinion - other than CS is NOT a realistic representation of tactical combat, but that is another issue.)
Though I only have a few minutes logged playing a single game thus far, the 710T is By Far the best gaming experience I've had on an LCD to date.
6. Haven't had a chance to watch any movies on this thing yet - will post my experiences when I do.
7. I noticed that Auto Adjust seems to work fairly well - only requiring minor tweaking for a very good picture from my experience. (Auto Adjust apparently only works on an Analog input signal. There is a message w/ DVI input that says "Auto Adjust Not Available" when the button is pressed.
I'm curious to know what brightness and contrast settings you all are running at.
Finally, the [H]ardForums look beautiful on this thing!
