Well, its sad but true, turned on the PC and the bios loading screen was all pixelated, and i was like "oh no." So i hit the power button, take out the card compressed air'd my computer out, cleaned the connectors on the card and put it back in, and sure enough, same thing. had to vertical lines that were just all pixelated going down my screen, and when i try to go into bios, all i saw was a mess of dots, so i pulled my NV5 off the card and replace the stock cool on, called BFG and they didnt ask any questions. So hopefully i will get me a new one back. Think it was a common problem if they didnt ask anything else.

Yep, real good person here......

We're in total agreement on this Skyring.

This guy is no better than the guy who takes money out of the church collection plate, or the divorced mom who spends the kids child support check on crack.

No ethics or integrity whatsoever, a penny ante thief.

to each his own

This is not a to each his own situation. This person is stealing if they do not tell BFG they modified their card in their RMA request. Since he's trying to makew it look like he didn't, I'd guess he isn't planning to?

If someone posts they have a lot of child porn, would you post "to each his own"?

If someone posted they're going to drug and rape their prom date, "to each his own"?

If someone posted they're going to break inot their neighbors house and steal a new video card because they've destroyed theirs with a mod or OC, to each his own?

So why when this guy says he's going to steal a video card from BFG, do you say "to each his own"?

Is BFG somehow more deserving of being stolen from than his neighbor? Why? :(

so he replaced the stock wimpy cooler with an NV5, big deal.

When was the last time you got pulled over by a cop & told him up front (without being asked) every single time in the past month you've broken the speed limit, changed lanes without signaling, followed too closely, didnt come to a complete stop at a stop sign and every other possible moving & non-moving violation/local ordinance??

Didnt think so.

If random_videocard_mfg doesn't ask you if your card has been modded/OC'd from stock settings/equip, how much do you devulge? "Oh, and I'm using non-OEM drivers too btw, and my motherboard only supplies 1.48v instead of 1.5v so I had to bump it up to 1.6 which puts it at 1.55v IRL, yada yada yada..."

If they really wanted to know they'd ask. They aren't stupid anyway, they know people overclock & mod their cards with aftermarket coolers, etc.. Nobody knows if he'll get a new card or a refurb/re-mfg card. But isn't that at BFG's discression anyway? They may even deny his RMA!

And Rollo,

dude, UNPLUG, if your taking a Vid Card RMA as serious as child porn, rape, etc.. you need to seriously take some time away from the PC and go outside & chill out dude.

My gosh ppl, you'd think he just commited a federal offense for RMA'ing a vid card & not telling the person on the phone his whole life story.

Bottom line, BFG didn't ask, BFG isn't stupid & knows ppl are gonna OC/mod their products, if they wanted to know, they would of asked.

Now go outside & get some sunshine already!

Gimme a break folks.

BFG cards are OC'd to begin with, so I had bet they expect a certain amount of these returns... it'll be interesting to see if they can tell that the card has been tampered with... :) (meaning - the NV5 was on it)

He is stealing from BFG, because he has voided his warranty by modifying the card and is now fraudulently returning it.

You don't know that he didn't botch the install of the nV5, the cards death may be (and probably is) entirely his fault.

BFG owes him one thing only: a card that works at their default clocks in the same configuration as it comes from the box.

If he fried it by poor aftermarket cooling installation, and/or OCing, the loss should be his.

If he ran it stock, the loss is BFGs.

This is theft, nothing else.

You apparently don't have a job.

Let's say you own a car dealership. I buy a car from you, and screw up installing a K&N aftermarket airfilter kit. My sloppy installation allows sand to get into the intake, and I destroy the motor.

Then I hop onto H and post, "Damn! My car died! I'm going to put the stock intake back on it, hopefully they'll give me a new one!"

This is the same thing- THEFT.

If you are going to overclock you should take the risk, not BFG, period. No excuses, no bull, just fact. .

I'll assume you have proof seen as your willing to place blame and say its all his fault.

How about you post this proof showing it all his fault?

he never said he overclocked it...maybe he put the nv5 on it just for quieter operation. Also im not sure but i dont believe putting a different HSF unit voids the BFG warranty.

he never mention that he OCed. so its not bull, its not fact.

Either he screw something up when he install the cooler OR the card is not working properly in the first place.

Contact BFG for further assistance. Let's hope you won't void ur warranty by exchanging the cooler.

Another quick scenario for you all. I have an MSI 9800 Pro that I removed the heatsink from to apply AS3. That was a couple of months ago. Last night, the fan quit working on the card and WoW froze. The fan has quit on the card a couple of times now although it is clean and dust free, and the card overheats to where you cannot touch it. I have requested an RMA from MSI. What do you think about this situation?

The BFG rep appears to not have a problem with using a different HSF:

Technically the warranty is voided if the card is modified in any way, because most non-[H] guys can mess up the chip or caps, etc during the process, and we end up eating that cost when people dishonestly send it in for RMA.
BUT, if you know what you are doing AND are careful, you should have no problem and everything will be just fine. I'm not saying if something goes wrong that the warranty will cover you, it won't, I'm just saying if you really want to change out your fan, do it carefully.

Sure, he "has no problem with it" unless you try to RMA when he'll tell you that you have voided your warranty and that BFG assumes no responsibility for your screw up?

Way to drive up costs for the rest of us.

No doubt. These thieves seem to forget companies need to make a certain amount of profit to operate, and that adding to their cost of doing business with returns adds to the price we all have to pay.

you have to remember that improper installation of the card voids the warranty as well but how would you know if you improperly installed the card wrong? what im trying to get at here is that only DAMAGE due to improper install of the card and/or DAMAGE due to installing an aftermarket heatsink voids the warranty. SO if he didnt DAMAGE the card while putting on the heatsink he DIDNT void the warranty. If the card worked for awhile with the aftermarket heatsink i doubt the damaged was caused by it

I know if my 300+ dollar video card breaks ... i call and they give me the go ahead to RMA...im sending that bitch back...weather i broke it...they broke it...the cat broke it...etc.

Are you telling me that those bashing him would seriously go out and purchase a new 300 dollar or higher video card when you have a good chance of it getting repaired or a new being shipped out?

hey i drove my new rebuilt engine really really hard. harder than i knew i should have. and well, the engine blew. so i replaced my so-so aftermarket valve covers with the stock valve ones and cleaned all the junk and burnt oil off my engine and GUESS WHAT!?!? they are gonna take it back and fix it for free since i didnt do anything wrong. cool hu?

You guys ever wonder why costs in graphics card have increased by such a huge amount? Now you know.....

so you are saying if you fried your $400+ card you would just be like oh well i go buy another? yeah right. unless you are bill gates.

i think we need to apply a bit of common sense here, plus i'd like to know more.

before jumping down his throat, revenant.. how long has the nv5 been on there? what were your temps like? did you oc/voltmod it?

Since when is stealing not a federal offense?

Larceny by Trick or Deception occurs when the victim of larceny is tricked by a misrepresentation of fact into giving up possession of property.

Yeah, and if the value is over $200, it's Grand Larceny. Good luck getting BFG to press charges though, haha.

sure they do. that's why the next generation cards will be more than $600 retail i bet.

No, this isn't exactly true. The reason that computer products are so expensive is because of supply and demand. The more people that want a product, the more that a product will cost. A company will charge what they think people will pay for it. If people really want the product, they will pay for it. RMA'ing doesn't drive up prices. But, instead, everyone on here wanting the latest and greatest cards drives up prices.

Another think that drives up prices: inflation. Currently our enonomy is in a bit of a recession, this means that the domestic economy is slightly lacking, this leads to inflation. Inflation causes money to be worth a little bit less each time. The less the dollar is worth, the more of them we will need to shell out to buy the same product.

Also, the availability of product materials also drives up prices. the materials can become hard to gether, thus decreasing the production rate, and making them rarer. This is very much liek the X800XTPE. The memory chips were harder to manufacturer, took more resources, and thus made the end product harder to come across, this drove up prices for that product as well.

These combined, drive up prices, not a few people here and there RMA'ing a video card.

P.S.: Rollo, you need something to do with your time, Rape and possession of Illegal Paraphanelia are on a much different level that RMA'ing a videocard that will be fixed, reworked and put back into circulation.

Yea, i never OC'd the card, say what you will. if they give it back and say it was tampered with, so be it, im not gonna bitch and try to get me a new one. they guy on the phone as soon as i said what happened he told me to send it back right away. It worked with the NV5 on it for 3 months. So it was the Chip.

good job man...just ignore the nay sayers on this forum, unless you overclocked you are within your rights to RMA (at least in cells book of morality) *puts on flame suit

Supply and demand is so out dated, there are far to many outside factors for it to be an accurate system anymore.

And anyway, it works in my favor. For every RMA they do have to include that has a demand, as a drain on resources. So, therefore they must raise a price whenever they have to give out replacement cards, the rare chance of this is covered by a warrenty, but whenever a person voids that it shouldnt be covered. Your reasoning works against, to bad you really dont see that.

Ethically i agree with you. But come on man. This kid spent $30 on an aftermarket cooler and did not OC? You interested in some real estate in the everglades?

Lol, do whatever you want, who can stop you? Just, there is no reason to post about it on the forum becaues so many people here are full of moral values.

Who would not do the same thing? Spend $200 on a card, extra $30 for better cooling, and then have the card break? I would RMA it if that happened to me.
-And the part about driving up consumer costs...1 RMA won;t drive anything up, especially if they get more competition from ATI. People RMA probably everyday.

supply and demand isnt "a system" its just a fact of a free market, the more people that want something the more they can sell and the more they will charge for it.

ever think that maybe he just didnt like the noise of the stock cooler?

It's not cool, but people will still do it. Things just happen like that. Nothing can be done.

OP you said you told the guy from the company what happened, did you tell him that you replaced it with the aftermarket HSF and he was ok with that?

Sure it's not cool to shell out another bunch of money for a new card, a lot of people would go for the easy way to get a new one back free. But you need to know that there ARE respectful people who pay money for a new video card when they've fried their previous ones through OC'ing.

When you read overclocking disclaimers, what's the FIRST THING all the tools, utilities, whatever, and everything says? "We are not responsible for voided warranty/ ETC"

It's just the same as people in the restroom. Some guys toss their paper to the trash and miss, but don't pick it up. Others pick it up after they miss. The janitor needs to wipe other people's a$$es for whoever didn't toss it in.

Now if I was the Janitor, I'd see this is my job, it sucks, but I have to live with it. Nothing can be done about it because people do it all the time. This is what people who care also see.

Then we finally have those who never bothered to pick up their trash. They're just too busy to clean up after themselves.
