So I just got my new 9800pro (upgraded from an AIW 9700 pro)..

I ran 213x11 on 11-3-3-2 timings.. My old score with the 9700pro (@ 342.5/342.5) was 17050.. The 9800 pro (@ 405/350) score is as follows..

Total 17131

Car – low 234.6
Car – high 78.6
Drag – low 336.5
Drag – high 174.6
Lobby – low 197.9
Lobby – high 88.2
Nature 130.7

The only differences were a SLIGHT difference in FSB (old was 200x12)..

Another reason I think I'm getting low marks is that I'm getting laggy in it for some reason.. About every test there is a moment where it seems to lag, the fps plummet, then 1 second later it goes back up to normal.. I think it's because I may have more than one driver installed for the gpu.. Do you think this could be a reason?

Also, I ran the other test in dual channel and this test was in single channel (1024gb vs. 512).. I heard on AMDs that dual channel gives 5% increase in performance, if this is true, this would lead to a little over 800 points..

See sig for other info.. Thanks.

only 100 points with a newer card at a core 50mhz higher and mem ~10mhz higher..?

It MUST be because of the lag prob and because I'm running single channel..

5% better MEMORY performance, NOT 5% more 3DMarks!!

Make sure you didn't turn on AA or AF and make sure vsync is off. Close as many unnecessary services as you can and run it again.

Everytime i try and close explorer, the taskbar and all the icons disappear..

Anyone know how to get around this?

Don't close the explorer.... I would consider this somewhat necessary... Close all other applications like antivirus stuff, firewalls, etc... etc... and look through the task manager. If you don't know what it is, dont turn it off.

I really doubt that the open programs are whats keeping your scores down. Check AA and AF and turn them off, uninstall all drivers and do a fresh install of the newest cats or omegas, and report back.

After it's killed, run your benchmark. Once you're finished, Ctrl Alt Del and go to the Task Manager's Applications tab. Click 'New Task' and type 'explorer' in the box, no quotes. Press enter. Explorer is now running again, and your desktop should live again. :)
