Its been beautiful for over a month, and then BAM! Light leakage all over the place, and a "burn in bar" as ill call it along the bottom. Its not really burn in (i dont think LCD's can?) but it is a horizontal line that goes all the way across the bottom. In games it makes things lighter. This sucks. Ill post some pics if anyone wants them.

Does dell let you get your money back for defective products?

Can you show us a picture of your background, and are you sure that the problem is backlight leakage?

Your background and start menu may have burned into the screen.

Some people say having your screen display a pure white background and "exercising" it a bit can get it back to normal.
 
Well...im not seeing it anymore. The backlight leakage is still there (though not nearly as bad) and the bar at the bottom seems to be pretty much gone. Ill keep looking for it though, its bound to happen again if it happened once.

Note that picture greatly exagerates it, but it comparison to my laptop LCD it is very greyish.

I shot a email to support@dell.com, i have no idea it that even exists. I couldnt find another way to email them about the monitor though.

Nice background ^_-

...what do you mean that's supposed to be black? I definitely hope that such an expensive LCD can do better than this. I'd take a refurb if there's a chance it won't have this problem.

Well, like i said it IS exagerated, but its def not a black screen. The light leakage seems to have just covered everything. No corner leakage, just all around way to bright. And the line is still there :(
 
Is that a massively overexposed pic? Because there is no signs of black there and I can't believe it would be that bad.

Its a bad pic, though i dont know why. Its not nearly that bad in real life. Infact it seems to be mostly gone now, except for the burned in line at the bottom which i still cant figure out. I dont know whats going on with this thing tonight, it seems to be having mood swings.
 
ok, picture is updated. Above is the 2005fpw, below is the laptop screen. Its pretty close to how it actually looks. I AM right in assuming the 2005fpw is a bit white correct? Its not really noticeable in games (the corners are a bit) but thats not even close to black...

Hmm looks like your camera just overexposes the picture a bit. Here's mine in complete darkness for comparison:

Anyway it doesnt' look like yours has much leakage at all. I don't see that burn in line you're talking about either.
 
Its actually perfect again right now, the line is gone and their is no light leakage. I dont get it, was it overheating or something?
 
what i've noticed in mine is that when its on for a long time, it tends to show more leakage ..

yes i think it warms up or something....

and i think no matter how many times you replace the monitor, the new one will do the same thing !! it has to do the panel itself ...

The leakage was annoying, but the burn in bar was the most annoying for me.

Actually i disagree, using my first LCD next to my 20inch NEC multisync, they both represent blacks great when each call for them. I think its getting to the point where people are getting picky.

SED.. problably never see them coming to monitors. They're using them to take the place of plasma in 40"+ displays. No way in hell i'd go any bigger then 20 inches. And i also wouldnt pay a premium for a new technology again. LCD technology is always getting better.
 
Well, its back. Light Leakage in the same areas, and a solid black line on the bottom. :(
 
And upon further investigation, its where the grey menu meets the actual webpage on Firefox and IE. Looks like LCD's can actually get burn in?
 
LCDs can get burn in.... sort of.

If you have a background that is simple black and white bars, like a Zebra or a Refs jersey, than after time it will burn in. But the good part about LCDs is that it will not stay forever.

If it is the Task bar thats buring in, just set Windows to Hide Taskbar and it will go away in a few days or weeks. Its garunteed to go away, just not quickly. Also turing the monitor off for extended periods (days) will help it go away.

Google "LCD burn in" or "2005fpw burn in." There was a site that did a great story on it but I just can't remember it. It was linked here on the forum. Maybe try a forum search.

Thanks! Im gonna leave it off for a day and see what happens. I also hid the taskbar, ill see if it goes away (or atleast changes position)

Yeah, i think ill do like he did too and make a screensaver of pure white. Im problem though is that whenver i use it it will usually be there. The burn in is where the info bar at the bottom of firefox and IE is.

Thanks tho man, ill def do what he did too! :)
