I just upgraded my old and crusty 1.3Ghz T-Bird to a new XP 3200+ (to play Doom 3 in all its glory!) and found out that it ran HOT! So I made a little mod on my old Enlight 7237 with my new Dremel :) Nice hole in the front so the fan in the front gets air from the outside. And a hole on the side right above the processor (with dust filter on the outside!) so the HSF gets cool air from outside as well. My temp went down 10C!

I'm going to make a small duct from the side fan to the HSF so the HSF gets all the cool air from the side fan. Then I'm going to add another side fan over the AGP slot to cool down my OC'd BFG 5900 (I am not having problems with it tho). And I am gonna add a nice big blowhole in the top of the case some kind of duct on the outside to keep the hot air away from me.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my 1st mod with my fellow [H}'rs.

hows that thermaltake psu working out for you. im going to be ordering one pretty soon

You mean the Thermaltake HSF? The heatsink is to big for my mobo so I am using a Speeze FalconRock HS and the Volcano 11+ fan. this combination works well.

he does not have a thermal take, if you read sig it says 350 watt enermax
good locations to add fans, i agree with the sanding idea, it will look more clean. maybe you should paint the whole case as your next mod :)

my mistake the fan controller looks a lot like the thermal take 410watt fan control

Well, I was busy today! Fromt left to right.

I fixed the hold in the front of the case, somewhat
Put a fan hole in right side of case for 60mm low profile fan under Mobo/CPU area
Put another hole in left side of case over GPU
Put a hole in motherboard tray for CPU fan.
Put a hole in top of case for a 120mm blowhole
And I cut off the case fan grill on the back of the case. It had a lot of metal there. So I will be using a standard chrome fan grill on the back.

I don't have any of my equipment yet So I can't finish it yet. All I could do was cut and drill the holes today. Hopefully I will be done in a few days.

The holes I made today were much better. I realized not to cut the holes on the circle, but just inside the circle, then grind the rest away with the grinder attachment. They look much rounder the the 1st ones. I will post more pics when i get more done.

I scratched up my case some when grinding the holes so painting it might be my next mod. And I made a newbie mistalke cuz I was tired and plugged my floppy drive power cable in wrong and POOF, it's toast, as well as the PSU connector that was connected into it. Unfortunately my floppy power connector wasn't dummy proof like the rest of today's hardware connectors. But I never use the damn thing anyway.

Can't wait to get my fans and fan controller!

No, he said PSU as in Power Supply Unit.

Yeah, I know what PSU stands for. I asked if he meant HSF (as in he meant to type HSF but maybe he had PSU on the brain and typed PSU accidently.) cuz the only ThermalTake item I own is the Thermaltake Volcano 11+ HSF, which will be returned to CompUSA soon after I get my ThermalTake Smart II fan in.

I'd vote for this one: http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/product.php?productid=1810&cat=42&page=1
:D I killed my last one when my PSU died (bad mod, don't ask lol) but it was a pretty good one although I didn't get to hookup any CCFL or anything. I'm going to order another one to control my lighting system and some fans (I'm going water cooling so it's not alot).
Happy modding. :)

That one looks nice. I'm getting Aspire 609 Fan Master Thermal Monitor . It controls 4 fans, outputs all 4 fans RPM's, has 4 thermal monitors (prolly won't use them, at first at least), your choice of 5 different color faceplates, and your choice of 7 colors to choose from for the LED backlist display. I will be using 2x80mm ThermalTake Smart fans (4800 RPM max each), 1x120mm Speeze fan (2500 RPM), and either 1x80mm or 1x60mm (low RPM).

Nice, you know I just noticed the shipping on that. Is it me or has Newegg been kind of weird lately when it comes to shipping? I had to get some AS Ceramique awhile back (it was the little version) and it was like $7.50 with $4 shipping, had to get a bunch of other stuff just to make it feel "right."

Their shipping has always been kind of weird. I was gonna build a pc for a co worker and i made an estimate for her. It was about 12 items being ordered and nearly all had free shipping. That was strange but I didn't mind! :D

So far its looking great. From the looks of where you placed the holes I assume your going
to move the pc so that it has clear ventilation. Also in the first few pics it looks like your
using a fan filter, you may want to try and get the pc off of the carpet and remove the filter
for more asthetic reasons than functional.

ya i remember on newegg most of the stuff that small was free shipping. there losing a lot of customers because there prices are going up and there products are going down. now its basically a basic component online store such as fans fan grills cases basic motherboards basic processors basic psu etc

heh, nice mods. The great thing about bad cases is that it encourages you to mod. I had to totally reverse the airflow of my HP Pavilion to get it as close as possible to ATX spec.

The ol' blow hole in the Enlight case trick :) I believe that was the very combination I used for my first mod too.

Now your doomed like the rest of us fools... obsessing over "What's wrong with this picture, and what can I do to improve it?", questions :p

I have yet to find a place that delivers the service and prices that Newegg has.
They haven't hit the corporate market yet since they don't sell enterprise level stuff, but I place orders through them whenever I can, and have yet to be disappointed.

i havnt ordered anything major just a dfi (oh thats major) and a case and a couple fans and havnt been disapointed. the shipping has gone up though

Computer has decent ventilation already. and it doesn't sit on the carpet. it's on a piece of hard plexiglass. I don't care about asthetics since no one sees my computer and I need the dust filter.

haha, so true. I've always been that way as far as performance goes: BIOS tweaking and Windows tweaking. Now I'm case tweaking!

I order most stuff from newegg unless they are out or I can find a great deal somewhere else. I was going to order my 3200+ from them put I found a place thay was selling it for $57.00 cheaper and they had a pretty good reseller rating. Newegg is pretty close to my house so I get stuff next day without paying for next day :)

are you in city of industries? if so you suck!
im in anaheim and it takes about 4 days

Your kidding, right? I live in Anaheim, about 2 miles from Knotts Berry Farm. If I order before noon, i always get it next day, except weekends and holidays of course. I just got some stuff today that I ordered Monday. I ordered after noon so I new it would count as a Tuesday order. Maybe they don't like you, hehe. That's kinda weird.

i live right by esperanza if you know where that is........ nixon library is about 10 min away from me. im on the border of yorbalinda. disneyland is a 25 min drive and a 4 hour walk :)

Try directron.com. They are always close or lower than Newegg on prices, and the service can't be beat. I'm not too experienced with Newegg though, so I won't try to compare their service.

OK, my case mod is 95% done. The only thing I need to do is is the fan under the mobo cpu socket. The fan I had broke, do some wire management, and make that duct for the blowhole. I have a dryer duct that im gonna cut up and make it sleek looking. Here are some pics

My components. You like my ghetto round cables? hehe

Here is a 80mm to 60mm fan adapter on my HSF, I'll explain below

Here's a picture of the side case fan of with a 80mm to 60mm fan adapter as well. Bet your getting the big picture now.
IMG_0149.JPG

Here's a not so great pic of the 2 fans with adapters. I'm using the adapters as an air duct. I still need to get some wire loom to complete it since there is a small gap.

Pic of the side fans with Thermaltake grills since kuyaglen thought it needed some asthetics. I still have the filters on tho :)

I'm running the fans on max (CPU, 2 side and top all hooked up to the fan controller, plus the front and back hooked up to the mobo.) And the Aspire 609 Fan Master so far is handling the stress of these fans like a champ. I've had it on for about 30 minutes now and it idles at 38 cpu / 34 ambient. next will be the load test. Hope I don't blow a fuse! hehe

* EDIT * Well, after about 30 minutes the CPU stops at about 50-51 and the ambient stays at 43. Maybe not the greatest temps but before I started I was getting 65-66 for the cpu and 47-49 for the ambient temp. Not to bad, thats a 15C decrease for the CPU temp! I'll post more pics when I get the rest done. Might finish the cpu and blowhole ducts this weekend, and the right side panel fan next week since i have to order parts. I'll post pics as I go. If anyone has some suggestions, please let me know. and thanks for the encouragment! :) Now it's time for some Doom3! :D Scary game BTW!

Well, I finished my computer today.

It got pained metallic blue
Optical drives got stealthed
Put a vent on top to vent hot air away from me and to protect from spills

The paint job is not the greatest but the front bezel looks really nice.
I need to do a couple touch ups but that will be easy, then i'm done. I'm pooped!
