I know its old news , but i had to share with you guys my cpu overclocking story, its pretty crazy.
I bought a retail 1700+ from newegg when they were going for around 40$ back quite some time ago. It was a glorious unlocked JIUHB core , I immediately installed it in my chaintech kt400board w/a volcano 7 and tried to overclock it. I started by jacking the voltage up to 1.85 and trying to run it at 2000mhz. it ran but got hot (like 125), and i assumed it was my old cooling. I managed to boot windows up to 2300mhz, but it was to hot to run any stressfull applications (even CS). So i ordered a slk-800 and when it arrived i ended up breaking a corner off the core in my haste to remove the volcano 7. Some time and much pleading the wife later i ordered an OEM 1700+ which ended up being an A core and it was locked multiplier
Me and a freind (super_stoner, the microwaving CD guy) were BSing one night and he asked me about the cpu sitting on my shelf (the broken 1700+) and i told him my greek tragedy and that i kept it as a reminder to SLOW THE HELL DOWN. He asked if i had ever tried the processor since, and i was like "naw". Later I installed it in my new asus a7v600 for shits and giggles with a 2500rpm fan, and slk7 (aluminum HS) and low and behold it worked! I left it at stock speed till DOOM3 came out, and tried overclocking it again. i left the voltage alone and now its running at 2235mhz, 166fsb @1.57volts.. It never goes above 111F when under a load. It actually runs faster and cooler than the 2500+ i have in my a7v8x-e.. Anyways i had to tell you all about my crazy story.
