Just wondering if anyone had modded their MX700 base. Or maybe even put it inside the PC or something. I need to put mine somewhere because I think my sub is enterfering with it, it lags everyonce in a while, its either that or my Cordless Freedom Pro keyboard.

See that was one of my thoughts, but we have seen some nice stuff.

Maybe a flip top to drop the mouse in or something. I dont' know I was just asking :)

i was under the impression that the MX700 base should be like a foot from any other electrical appliance so as to not distort or disrupt its signal

technically, yes.

In reality... mine's nestled right in between my two crt's, and the only time I have problems is when my neighbor is using his CB.. :D

CB?

See this is why I don't think wireless mice are a good idea... im definately getting the MX500 over the 700, same great mouse pretty much...with a cable and no damn interference.... it's not like your mouse cable is any huge inconvenience anyway...

edit: cheaper too :D

yeah, CB. he's got a giant antenna on his roof. It only happens ~once a month, so it's not a big deal. I never had wireless until I got my Mx700...and I love it. :) The way my desk's setup, it makes the wireless very convenient.. I had a wired mouse, and the cord kept getting caught in stuff.

You say that the Cable is not an inconvenience, but they are. I love watching guy's Duct Tape their Cable to their Desk's during our Halo and CS, UT2K3, and all those other FPS games when we have Tournament's cause it keeps falling behind the Desk. I will stick with my MX700, cause it's the bomb. I never have any problem with it, we usually have 30+ ppl LAN's and 12-15 of us have the MX700 and it is never a problem.

I just got an MX900, and I have had no problems with any kind of interference yet.

MY friend has a MX700 and he keeps the base inside his case...I tell him it is stupid since he has to open the door everytime and shit...

Just currous, because the MX900 mouse is Bluetooth, doesn't that mean it's pretty much impossible to interfere with it because of paring with the computer? Shouldnt be a problem with me anyway, i've had the Cordless Freedom Duo for about 3 years now and have never had any issues, but i just orded to DiNovo today, should be here next week :D

The MX700 uses CB frequencies. Around 27mhz.

Channels 5 and 17 according to my old, old, old, old, analog dial CB :) (the mx700 can be switched between 2 channels)

The MX900 on the otherhand uses Bluetooth which operates in the unlicensed 2.4Ghz band. While the protocol is designed to handle interference fairly well, its still possible for any 2.4Ghz phone, 802.11b LANs, microwaves, etc... to interfere with it.

My MX700 base is right next to a Cisco DSL modem, a Netgear router, and a Samsung CRT. No noticeable interference. I plan on painting my base and mouse - any recommendations/tutorials on taking them apart in order to get to them separately?

Yeah, I wish I had picked up the dinovo. I didn't know anything about it until I already had my MX900. I wish I could buy the keyboard separately. I need to pick up a nice bluetooth keyboard to go with the mouse.

Honestly, they're really not, if you apply a small amount of logic and common sense to desk layouts. Honestly...most people who use their PCs, especially for gaming or anything need to be close to their P tower.....so someone's going to have to defy common sense and explain to me why a wireless setup is needed? If your getting lag and interference, just get a regular corded mouse and keyboard.

This is not a flame on wireless stuff. I have a nice MS combo for my HTPC. But I have no desire to complicate things on my desk by adding a wireless setup. Mouse and keyboard cables are plenty long enough to reach.

How is less complicating Thing's? I have no problem's with my MX700 and I play all the FPS games mostly everyday, for hours, and it has never lagged on me, or messed up.

So what your trying to say is.... that by removing wires and the such and replacing them with a high frequency.... your some how complicating things? Seems to me that the lack of anything dangling from your mouse would be a welcome enjoyment.

Only 8757 more posts and Ill be a BAD ASS like IoWnZa.... your my hero man!:p

What I meant was the constant stream of complaints of lag, poor gaming performance, shorter battery life, interference etc. None of which are a problem with corded devices.

Try as you might, there is no way to rationalize or justify having the need for a wireless combo on a typical desk...just not possible. Again, there is a need and a place for wireless devices...just not on the typical desktop.

I would think that the ppl that are having those problem's have something wrong, because none of those issues have been seen with my MX700, I do have energizer 2100mAh Ni-MH in it, but other then that, the mouse is god's gift to gamers.

The light always blink's right when I am about go to bed, so that is never a problem, I get no lag what-so-ever, never have. the performance in CS, Q3, BF1942, UT2K3, and all the other games that I play is wonderful, and I can't thank logitech enough for making such a wonderful mouse.

Based on wha I've read, and seen firsthand, I'd consider yourself one of the lucky ones. No doubt Logitech makes a fine wireless mouse...but as I stated before...corded devices will always perform better and with less hassle.

And it's not as if I have had the same MX700 the whole time. I get a new one every 2-3 Month's once the Feet Wear down. So I would say that I am lucky, having 4 good mice in a Row...

this thread got a little hijacked but it's all good. i've opened up my base a time or 2 and it's really simple. there's 2 screws on the bottom of the base. just be careful when you're doing it that way you don't screw anything up! :D i've wanted to change the LEDs in my base (i have the duo) to blue ones but i haven't got the guts yet. i have trouble getting enough courage built up to solder and desolder on a pcb that could cost a fair chunk of change to replace. oh well maybe some day i'll try it.!

You're right. I just took mine apart to see and it does look fairly simple. As for putting Blue's in it, those would look a lot nicer then the Green.

Doing LED's is realy simple, but if you don't trust yourself, there is always a friend out there that has a steady hand with a Soldering Iron :)

/IoWnZa

how much power do you think is going to those LEDs?? can't be over 3.3 i wouldn't think?

btw: i was going to mod my mx keyboard till i figured out it wouldn't look right! if anyone has ever seen the duo the kb has 2 pieces of "smoked" plastic on either of the top corners. i was gonna put some LEDs in there hooked up to a project box with batteries and a switch, but i soon figured out that the glass was too dark:rolleyes: it woulda been cool too

I would imagine not more, but youu can always throw a Multi-Meter on em and find out. Mine is back together now, so you're going to have to find out, or find a side on Google that shows how to do it, and what do get for LED's and such.

Hmm. . . so far my whole system is black/silver with blue lights. . . so if I had the courage to do the base, I'd only have the green LEDs on my monitor left to change, and I don't think I'm ever taking this sucker apart -- too much to lose when I screw it up.

Also, OT, I also have had no problems with my mx700 - never had the batts run out -- I could use it 14 hours at a time or more (graduated from college, had a few weeks before the job started, so I gamed allll day :D), and it still never ran out of juice. When I went to sleep, I stick it on the charger, it's done by the time I wake up, and all is right with the world. Never had a single software complication, connection problem, interference (lots of phones/tvs here), nothing. So, forgive me djnes, if I don't understand what problems you're talking about.

Other than plugging the combo in, you hit the connect button on the mouse, then on the KB, and you're good to go -- I haven't touched it since -- many months ago.

One other reason why I don't have issues is most likely because I do not install the MouseWare Software. Never have never will.

Alright, we have been OT long enough. Time go get this back On Topic.

now that i'm thinkin about it again, i think last time i had mine apart i used my multi meter on it. but i can't remember what kinda voltage it was puttin out. nuts:rolleyes:

i know this doesn't necessarily pertain to the original question, but i don't think that i would EVER try to mod my 700 itself. the base is a little different. i just saw where they changed the LED in the mouse it self. yeah it's neat but i would want to mess up such a freakin awesome mouse!

Replacing the LED is easy, getting in the monitor is almost as easy, but if you could find me a two-color blue-orange LED to replace the 2 color one in a monitor, that I would be impressed with.

How far are they supposed to go? The keybd/Mouse to still be able to work away from the base Cordless MX duo

6 Feet to work like the Corded Version, that is for the Mouse anyways, I am not sure about the Keyboard. I know that they can be used further away, but not with full capability.

Dang, this topic got huge.

I only have lag when I set my sub next to the base, and I have cheep crappy speakers is probably why. I am going to be getting a new keyboard because my Freedom Pro is lagging, when I type a letter everyonce in a while it wont do anything, but when I hit the key again it spits out two letters. I love the mouse, no problems with it at all, thing is smooth and really reactive, kicks major butt.

I was just curious to see if anyone had done anything with one, but it seems you all are like me, kinda iffy on tearing apart a near $100 mouse. (Corse I got mine for like $40 with a nice Staples deal back when the first came out :))
