Ok so I'm looking to get a new mouse but torn between these 2, I can get either of them for about the same price (5$ difference).

Does anyone have any reason to get one over the other? Anyone have some experience with them?


I mostly need it for starcraft 2, and FPS games if that makes any difference
 
I had the MX518 before I got the Mamba, and had I not spent so much money on the Mamba I would gladly go back to the 518. It's a great mouse with just the right number of buttons. Also very comfortable. I used it primarily in Quake 1 and it held up just fine. My experience with Razer has been horrible, starting with the Boomslang many moons ago. Every time I buy one of their products, something inexorably goes wrong. Logitech on the other hand has served me well each and every time I have used their products. I suppose the Mamba being terrible is my punishment for straying from Logitech!
 
Hmm.. I've been hearing about alot of problems with Razer mice too, but wasn't too sure how common they were.

Hmm, tough choice. They are both excellent mice.

Both track extremely well. The DeathAdder has the edge when it comes to DPI, which for me means having to move the mouse less. Razer peripherals do seem to be more prone to quality control issues, though my DA hasn't given me any trouble (knock on wood). The DeathAdder has a more ergonomic shape if you're right-handed, and the side buttons are larger. The DA has a nice rubberized top with slick plastic on the side, while the MX518 is the opposite; slick plastic on top with rubberized sides. With either mouse, the slick plastic parts tend to accrue grime and feel icky after a while, but it's not a big deal to occasionally give them a wipe with a moist rag or towel.

Logitech's customer service and warranty are most excellent should a problem arise, but I've rarely had problems with my Logi gear. I'm the second owner of my MX518 and it still functions like new, but when I have had a problem with a couple of other peripherals they were terrific about getting it resolved to my satisfaction (which usually results in them sending a brand new replacement without me even having to send the old one in). I haven't had to deal with Razer; I've heard they are ok if the product is still under warranty but it would be hard for them to beat Logitech's CS and RMA process.
 
+1 for DA going strong for 3-4 years, gave the mx510(or 518?) to fiance she doesn't care what she uses tho.
 
don't be fooled about DPI. DPI will not make you a better player, if anything it will make you much worse. For accuracy I use 800 DPI and turn my mouse sensitivity in game to very low.

Anyway I used a 518 and it was the second best mouse I have used. I now use the G5
 
I think a lot of this comes down to preference, and in that respect it would be hard to know simply what you don't know. I own both and I prefer the mx518 even though the Deathadder is a sweet mouse. They have very similar traits with their ergonomics but I really think one would just work better for the individual. Button placement, scroll wheel function, and palm swell shape are all subjective which is why I have bought so many damn mice over the last year or so making sure I am not missing out.

My advice, if you have some buddies with these mice, trade them for a week. Give each mouse a shot. I think one will stand out from the other in the end and it will be an obvious choice once you reach the end of the trial periods.
 
Good mouse, never had any issues with it in the 3 to 4 years I have had it. Use it for everything from word documents to spreadsheets to games.
 
Is the MX518 the best gaming mouse from Logitech? I own one by the way and think it's great!
 
Whichever one is more comfortable to you is the one you should get. While testing them out, pay close attention to the right side of the mouse where your ring finger and pinky lay as comfort in this area is particular sensitive for people on these two mice.

If it's a tie and you don't care, I would get a DA, especially if its the 1800 dpi version. The 518's sensor has some drift-control (Angle snapping, "straight line assistance", prediction, whatever you want to call it) that you can't disable.
 
My mx518 should arrive on Monday. I ordered it for the same games you are playing. Newegg has a $15 MIR for the mx518 if that helps.
 
I've had plenty of Razer mice and they never gave me problems. In terms of performance the Deathadder is most likely preferable because you can choose whether or not you want angle snapping. (prediction) Comfort is the #1 factor, however.
 
My Deathadder hasn't let me down yet, after almost 2 years. I've dropped it close to a hundred times, and the cable is always getting bent, but it runs as if it were new. I just wish it had a couple more buttons.
 
I like the mx518 (and my old mx510 even) a whole lot, but I'd have to give the edge to my DA.

It took a while to get used to the smaller fit, but now that I have, I can't seem to find a better mouse. Tracking is excellent.

Make note that this is the original DA 3G - NOT the 3.5G, which I'd avoid.

Hehe... that makes your decision more difficult. Can't go wrong either way... I'd pick the more comfortable mouse... and if it's still a split decision, then I suppose I'd go with the mx518 just because Razer does seem to suffer quality control issues. I think the mx518 is more sturdy, but my particular DA has been solid, and I've had it since release.
 
I've had both and used them for a long time each. Death adder is the perfect shape and a better feel. The top of the outside is rubbery instead of plastic like on the mx518.

I also like the scroll wheel and side-buttons much better on the death addar. As far as durability, it seems pretty durable. I've pulled it off my desk by the cord at least 10 times onto a hardwood floor.

Seriously, this is a personal decision that only you can make. The MX518 is a fantastic mouse. The Deathadder is a fantastic mouse. I love my Deathadder and can never go back to the MX line. My hand, once accustomed to the MX has now become one with the Razer mouse. When my Deathadder dies, I will buy another Deathadder. When they stop making the Deathadder, which they never will (NEVER!), I will cry. I bought this about the time the mouse launched, years ago. I've never had a problem with it.

The only way to decide which is best is to put your hands on one. Go to Best Buy and put them in your hand.
 
My MX Revolution Is getting A little long in the tooth. I have a Razer Diamondback that I am currently using. I do like it, but it is not as comfortable as the MX. I just ordered the Deathadder from J&R for a pretty good price. It will look so good on my new Ripper XXL Xtrac mousepad. Thanks to all the posters in this thread, as you have made my decision so easy.
 
Really depends on the size of your hands and how well it fits with the ergonomics of the MX518
 
Also looking for a new mouse. I tried the deathadder and imperator in the store and didn't like the shape or feel. I think I am more of a palm type user. I currently own a Diamondback. I like Razor's for their design, but I'm tending not to get another one at this time. I bought the diamondback because it was one of the lightest and small mice a few years back. Now there a lot more options.

I ended up buying a MX518, g9x and MS Sidewinder X8. I tried the predecessor of the MX518 and didn't like the shape. The G9x has an unusual shape. I haven't tried the larger cover. I like the X8 so far, but the placement of the side buttons are not as good as logitech's. Interestingly the shape I liked best was the Logitech LX8 wireless, but I didn't include it in my testing because I think it's wireless signalling is not designed for gaming.The Sidewinder X8's wireless is made for gaming and is supposed to have 500 polling (not sure if that is the usb part or also the wireless).

I do FPS gaming and my main problem is that I tend to shake when I click the mouse buttons, but I don't like a very heavy mouse.
 
I LOVE my Death Adder. I'm using the white LED Mac edition to match my Logitech Illuminated keyboard.
 
I love my DeathAdder.
I've used the MX518, G5, G500, and G9x. Neither have bumped my DA. Its what is most comfortable to me and the giant side buttons have always been a plus. I've had it for 2 and a half years now. I need to replace it, the left mouse button is double clicking.
 
Another +1 to the Logitech MX series. I've been using the MX510 for years, but when I actually built a gaming machine, I got the MX518 and it is just what I have grown accustomed to.

On the flip side, I don't have anything negative to add to the discussion about Razer product except that I haven't had the opportunity to try them out to what I would call an appropriate length of time. This will probably change once I get employed again. >.<
 
+1 for mx518. I've been using mine for years and it's still running strong, very comfortable! The feet wore out after a few years but I picked up some teflon tape and fixed that.

MX518 - fingertip style.
Deathadder - palm style.

that is to say, do you push the mouse around with your fingertips or the palm of your hand?

not sure what I mean? to ellaborate: does your wrist rest on the desk or on the mouse?
 
Love my v1 Deathadder. Replaced my mx1000 which replaced my mx518.

I don't palm my DA and find it to be very comfortable.
 
i use both styles for my DA , depending on my mood, i guess.
 
I use a 518 at work and a deathadder at home. Honestly, it's all about ergonomics. I much prefer the deathadder with my hand shape. I'm thinking of picking up the 3500dpi deathadder and moving my old one to work.
 
I find the MX518 and many Logitech mice uncomfortable. Deathadder is great. Been using it since it was released.
 
You guys that love the DeathAdder for its shape would probably really like the Ikari Laser (and Optical). The shape is similar and in fact even more ergonomic if you're right-handed. Perfect indents right where they should be; it's like an extension of your arm really. It also has a DPI switch button, which is probably the only thing I can really complain about with the DA (aside from that slick plastic on the side which loves to retain grime, ugh). Tracking is excellent as well.

They are both great mice; I just thought I'd mention the Ikari since I felt it was similar to the DA and there are probably some people who have never heard of it.
 
Literally seconds ago,because of this thread, I bought another MX518 for my upstairs computer. :D

I am replacing one that died after ~6 years of hard use.
