mx510 driver: SetPoint?

Hi,

I just received a Logitech Media Elite Keyboard. I have a mx510 mouse running on windows drivers for a couple of months.

To be able to configure the keys on the keyboard I installed the SetPoint software for the keyboard. While installing it asked if it should install the driver for
1. keyboard
2. mouse
3. keyboard+mouse

I thought that the software had detected that the mx510 was running on windows drivers and therefore asked to install the drivers for the mouse too.

So I chose option 3. keyboard+mouse.

But after the installation the mx510 began behaving strange - the pointer was moving way to fast. And it was not possible to configure it, and furthermore the application switch (alt+tab) did not work.

Something was obviously wrong.

So I began too google and quickly I found out that the SetPoint was not for the mx510. It should have used the MouseWare driver instead.

But then why is the Logitech SetPoint software for the keyboard offering me to install the mouse driver when it is not intended for this mouse?

I knew what to do. I have reinstalled Windows XP and now everything is working good again (with windows drivers for both keyboard and mouse).

And now to my question: Could in any way any harm have been done for the mx510 by running with the SetPoint driver which is not intended for this mouse? I think SetPoint is for the mx518.

Best regards

No you didn't harm the mouse by running the setpoint driver. The driver just interprets the signals coming from the mouse and doesn't change anything physically with the mouse.

As to why Setpoint asked if you wanted keyboard+mouse, not really sure other than it noticed you had a logitech mouse and the software wasn't smart enough to warn you to not load the drivers.

Thanks for your answer :p

I think Logitech make great hardware but they could make improvements on the software part.

When I installed my MX518 I also had the option to install keyboard and mouse, not very robust...
