mx500 vs. mx510?

Just wondering, is there actually a difference between them in real life use? I'm planning on playing a lot of FPS games, surfing the web, using photoshop...stuff like that. I was planning on buying the mx500 for the colours until I looked over the specs and I noticed that the mx510 was slightly better.

Has anyone used both mice, and can you tell a difference? Should I just stick with the mx500 or buy the mx510. Everywhere I've looked, the mx500 is only about a dollar cheaper than the red version, and like 5 dollars cheaper than the blue.

Thanks!

with FPS, I think you can notice it. I played CS and I think I noticed a change. It might just be mind tricks though :D

If there is any real life gains, they are miniscule.

But if you don't already own a mx500, why not get an mx510?

Well I guess it's because I'm trying to save as much money as I can, I really didn't think that buying a good mouse and keyboard would cost me around $100. Also, because of the colour scheme, if I got the mx500 it would match better. I don't get why the mx510 blue version is more expensive than the red version either...

But I think I'll probably purchase the mx510, seeing as how I'm already spending so much on the computer, I might as well spend that little extra right?

EDIT: Oh yah..and I forgot about the mouse pad too...it's these little things that seem to be making my computer more expensive then what I thought it would be.

Just use a slippery matte plastic folder, works fine for me. I refuse to buy mousepads.

the finish on the 510 is smoother than the 500. I didn't like the roughness of my 500 when I first got it

Damn that is a lot of money to spend on a mouse pad! I was steering toward the fUnc when I thought the mousepad was expensive, not the Icemat! It never occured to me that a mousepad could be more expensive than a mouse!

Yah, I guess my mind is set on the mx510, I'll just buy it later when it goes down in price. Does anyone know if retail stores will drop their prices on the mouse during boxing day?

You should go for the 510.

1) Improved over 500.
2) Negative Acceleration is now fixed.
3) Pretty?
4) Slightly more accurate.
5) Smoother feeling.

my 510 was noticably better than my 500, although I didn't like the way the plastic felt (too smooth vs. the slight graininess of the 500). I used it for about 2 months then it would randomly lose its connection to the computer quite frequently, making me remove the usb for a few seconds, then put it in, which can be very frustrating while playing CS. I guess it could happen to anyone with an MX500 or 510, but for now Im sticking with my 500.

Bah....MX1000 all the way.

For gaming the MX1000 comes in a distant second place to the MX510. I've heard the MX1000 doesn't perform well at all in fast action FPS.

You sir are correct my mx1000 does not like it when i play fps games >< So when i play FPS i plug in my trusty mx510 and everything is perfectly fine.

Unless you're hardcore looking for errors, you can't go wrong with the mx700.
I've noticed no difference between wired and wireless, and the people who do just seem to
be trying to find flaws in a product that has none.

I'm just going to get the mx510 blue and either the Microsoft Digital Media Pro or Logitech Elite Keyboard on boxing day, how's that sound?
