Hey all, I have had my MX Revolution going on 4 years now, and it has treated me very well. It's still going strong although the battery only lasts 2-3 solid days as opposed to the weeks it used to, it isn't that bad.

I noticed Logitech has a new MX Performance mouse now, would it be worth upgrading? I think the only real upside for me is the tiny receiver so I don't need to have it poking out the side of my Apple keyboard like it does now.

I think i had the same Mouse and keyboard. I got tired of changing the batteries so bought myself a g15 and g5. Its going to cost you about $100 for both, it worth the upgrade. Been running since 4 years now.

the biggest downside for me on mx performance mouse is that it does not have a cradle. you must plug/unplug the cord to recharge it. i wont be upgrading or changeing to that mouse at all for that one reason. to me its a huge downgrade in convenience.

But you can use it while it's plugged in. Good luck using the MX revolution while it's in its cradle. I guess if you had another mouse hooked up it wouldn't be a problem :p

I got a Perfomance MX and it can center-click haha. I do miss the dynamic hyperscroll or whatever on the MX Revolution.

I have the Performance MX and like it a lot, but I'm not into FPSs (CRPGs instead). My understanding is that this mouse might seem laggy to some - it does not overclock the polling, or something like that, and the max dpi may be too low for some gamers.

On the plus side the rechargeable battery is replaceable and you only need the one (small) receiver if you purchase a compatible Logitech wireless keyboard and some other devices. I have the Logitech K350 and like the fact that I don't need to use up two usb ports for the mouse and keyboard.

The mouse doesn't have the ability to hyperscroll?

I guess I better buy a bunch of MX Revolutions because I cannot live without this feature.

The Performance MX does have a super fast scroll option with the mouse wheel. Presume this is what you mean by hyperscroll.

It does have the ability to hyperscroll, but it's probably activated via a separate button (like on most of Logitech's mice) vs. switching via the wheel as was done with the MX Revolution.

On my Revolution, I always set it to free spin in the driver. The main advantage is that you get the middle mouse button back.

Personally, I think that with each new generation, the ergonomics of Logitech top mouse gets worse.

I like the MX 1000 better than the Revolution (with the possible exception of the free spinning mouse wheel on the revolution). The button placement was better, IMO. And now the to MX seems even worse (though i base that opinion on pictures).

I really regret not picking up a second revolution when they were $40.00 last year....much like i regret not picking up an extra MX 1000 a few years back.

that makes NO sense. of course you cant use it when its in the cradle. DUH. point is i want a wireless rechargeable mouse with an easyand hassle-free recharge system. a cradle is THE best way to do this.i don't want to have to fumble for wires to plug my mouse in whenever it needs to be recharged. i also dont want a corded mouse. if i did i would have bought one. the cradle has its place on your desk and its always there when you need it.
the battery life on the mx revolution is huge. if you run down the battery in a single session you seriously need a life. (and/or a new battery).
having to use a separate cable to plug in the mouse is ridiculous. if they wanted to do this they should have used the same type if cradle/cord the mamba uses, then you could have it both ways. pluggedin/wireless and a recharge cradle.

I don't know Rogue, I think I'd prefer the cable method. You could argue that a cradle is more convenient since you just plop it in there, but at least with the cable you can use the mouse while it's charging. Plus I've owned a wireless mouse with a cradle (MX 700) and after a while the contacts get fatigued and it doesn't charge as reliably. With the cable, there is less chance of it wearing out. Especially on the SideWinder X8 where the cable doesn't actually get inserted -- it's just a magnetic connection so there is no port to wear out over time. With the cable, you don't have to worry about a dock taking up space on your desk.

You say the battery on the MX Revolution has a long run time, but what if you forget to charge it the night before and it dies during use the next day? With the Performance MX you can plug it in and continue to use it while it recharges. With the MX Revo you are stuck with the mouse in the cradle until it charges unless you have a spare mouse around. I do, but many people don't. Just some things to think about. It's all personal preference anyway. ;)

I've done that, and it's a bit of a pain, but the reality is that if you charge it for 10 minutes, I'll make it to lunch, at which point I can drop it in the cradle, eat and i'll be set for days...of course if I charge it that night, it'll go for more than a week.

As for bad contacts, I've had an MX 1000 for over 5 years, and I've never had a problem with the contacts. Perhaps the mouse you used had an inferior or defective cradle.

and if u forget to charge your cellphone it wont work either.....the list goes on. the cable...you have to store it somewhere. so now when you need it you sort through a bunch of assorted cables and plug it into the mouse, which now needs to e plugged into the front port on your computer (which is just fugly) unless you have a desktop hub (which also takes up space). IMO the convenience of being able to use the mouse while its charging is an extremely minor and useless function. if you care so much about that then you should be buying a wired mouse. ive had 2 mx1000, 2 mx revolutions. one of the mx1000 is only now starting to be a pain with setting it properly in the cradle and its many years old with heavy use. the rest work great. of everything else i have, the cradle takes up the least amount of space on my desk. ive had my mx revolution since the launch which was years ago and it is used heavily and ive had no problems whatsoever, and ive never run the battery dead. yes its down to personal preference. i myself prefer performace, simplicity and functionality which is why i have the mouse i do.

the mx700 and even the mx1000 is a big drop down from the mx revolution in regards to the cradle.

I am kind of partial to the new Blue Track mouse that put out. It is cool being able to use your mouse on carpet, on picnic tables, couches, amongst other things. Blue Track is definitely worth a try.

Fair enough. I was just trying to supply some counterpoints since the MX Revolution isn't going to be the best solution for everyone just as the Performance MX (or any other mouse) isn't going to be the best for everyone.

I would only point out that the charging cable doesn't have to be plugged up to the front ports if it's long enough (not to mention it would be awkward having the cable come up from the front of the desk).

That's good to know.

if it doesnt have 5600dpi or a cord for wicked fast response the mouse is crap and outdated. J/K a friend of mine owns the mouse. I do no Prefer cordless mice but he does. when it comes to FPS I feel the mouse just cant keep up with a Solid Corded Gaming mouse.

alot has changed in 4 years.

Logitech's Darkfield laser tracking reportedly works on everything BlueTrack does, plus glass.

I had the MX1000 and RMA'd it recently getting an MX Revo back, I also have an MX1100, I find the 1100 to be more comfortable than the revo, even the MX1000 was :/ I think the MX Performance mouse might be a better option for me.

The charging cradle on my MX1000 worked great for the first year or so then it got extremely picky about being in the right position to charge.

I don't care if I have a cable to charge or a cradle to charge; I just want it to work reliably. Each takes up desk space. Each method requires a USB port on the PC for the wireless receiver. Each method requires a power adapter going to the wall so you can charge while the PC is off.

Cable advantages:
More reliable electrical connection
Ability to use mouse while charging

Dock advantages:
Ascetically nicer than a USB cable sitting loose on your desk
