We'll have to see if Logitech used the same Agilent sensor as the Razer Diamondback, or if got a hold of the revised one that eliminates the pixel skipping @ 1600 DPI.

I believe someone wrote a program to get rid of the pixel skipping with the Diamonback so I believe the issue is with the drivers and not with the sensor.

no, it's a problem with the sensor. All the patch does is makes it so that the mouse driver ignores the first mouse move in another direction. this makes you have to move the mouse twice as far in the other direction to move 1 pixel. This is better than be default, where it would skip the pixel all together..

Here, this explains what's happening better than what I will say:

"Pixel Compensation

1) Our engineers have been working with Agilent Technology to isolate this problem.

2) Essentially, what they are experiencing is known as "pixel compensation" and this is an issue that is inherent in ALL optical sensors. Pixel compensation stems from core optical technology from Agilent that addresses changes in direction below a certain movement threshold, also known as "jitter tolerance". Basically movements of the mouse can either be a deliberate movement of the mouse, or merely "jitter movement" which is a phantom movement due to core optical technology. For movements that are below the jitter tolerance, the sensor does not send the movement data but stores it until further data is provided so as to confirm whether this is indeed a true movement or merely a jitter movement. Upon confirmation that the movement is actually a deliberate movement, the sensor then sends the legacy data with the new data - and as such, this is pixel compensation. Alternatively, if there is no further movement, this is a phantom movement or jitter movement, and the sensor does not send the data.

3) Basically ALL optical sensors today have this issue, and the Razer Diamondback today incorporates the most advanced optical sensor in the world to date. The only reason why our users are experiencing this pixel compensation is because of two reasons: 1) The Razer Diamondback is twice as precise as other mice in the market today and as such, the pixel compensation is more pronounced even though this affects ALL mice. 2) Our users are a lot more discerning than all the run of the mill users in the world today. Just use ANY mouse in the market today and they will see that they have the same issue at a lower resolution. However, what they will also find is that given the precision of the Razer Diamondback, OTHER mice have a bigger problem with the jitter issue than the Razer Diamondback.

4) In a nutshell, the Razer Diamondback has the most advanced optical sensor in the world today and in fact this pixel compensation effect is minimized as compared to other normal mice given its precision. However, while it is minimized compared to other sensors, it is also more evident due to the fact that it is twice as precise as normal sensors.

4) While this is an issue that all mice face and that the Razer Diamondback is already touted as the ultimate gaming mouse of the world today, Razer is working on improving on perfection and satisfying all the most discerning gamers with a next generation sensor.

In closing, as there are many more issues that Razer cannot disclose in public, any of the users that have any further queries should email me directly and I would appreciate if the same replies are not posted on the forums.

I just got back from PDXLAN 4.05 where they were handing this mouse out, and it is one of the best mice I have ever played on. The sensitivity-changing buttons are well placed, and it's all hardware-based, so it doesn't rely on drivers at all. Can't wait till I can get my hands around one of these babies again.

Is this guy not using the mx1000 laser?

That would have been about the only draw for me.

Heh, Great Mouse! as an old schooler still using a true three button ball mouse ( and still prolly killing you in fps matches LOL ), this is the first non three button mouse to seriously get my attention, the resolution switching on the fly is amazing.
I won one at the PDXLAN this last weekend and i'm already training myself to use it in place of the, ever unstoppable, Mouseman.
We'll see if this old dog can learn a few new tricks. :)

b'tard... :p Any word on when we the lowly public will see it. :)

I will be getting the 518. I know when the 500 came out it was  awesome.

I Think when you get that high quality of mice, you dont notice the difference however....

This mouse looks nice, its like a mix between a MX510 and MX1000, really nice mouse. Too bad I just purchased a MX510

I wish they added a tilt wheel on the MX518. It seems the MX518 will just have a normal wheel.
