Is there anyway to win matches without pulling some bullshit 80% combo over and over? I seem to be losing tons of matches and I haven't lost to anyone yet who didn't use the exact same combo over 5 times in a match. They catch me off guard one time and bam, 80% combo. I really don't want to have to pull off big ass combos just to win. Is there any other way to play this game effectively or should I just sell this piece of shit? In Street Fighter 4 I can get my ass kicked and enjoy it the whole time, in this game, I'm dealing with one combo repeatedly thrown at me, not having control of my character for ten seconds at a time, just pure bullshit. If any game ever needed stun it is this game.

It's Mahvel Baybee. Deal with it.

If you have issues managing rushdown centric opponents, reconsider your team/assist makeup and spend some time in the lab (ie. Training) on CPU working on point character and assist zoning. Make your opponent hesitate, and create counterattack oppotunities.

Needs more C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKERs! But yeah, I'm having just fun playing against my brother in a non-competitive way. Use abilities like advancing guard to keep them off your nuts (as long as you can block the initial hits) and formulate a follow-up to punish them for being overly aggressive.

as long as they literally do not catch you off guard with their combo, you can often block them or even completely avoid them.

If you are very observant and know your moves well, you can also break through a lot of supers with other moves.

there are a lot of move and combo spammers out there, but if you are familiar with your team and relax, you should easily be able to punish them. Letting yourself get frustrated and not taking advantage of knowing what moves they are gonna throw is how you loose.

It sounds like you are more like me. I cant stand vs games. I knew this but decided to give MvC3 a shot anyway... Bad mistake. I played it maybe 2 nights. I just cant get into it. Back to SSF4...again.

Please, do not use that hype term to describe the travesty that is MVC3. It's TVC, NOT Mahvel.

I personally hate this series for the same reason. Sadly, Tekken 6 has the same issue. There's just something so annoying about getting hit with the same repetitious move followed by 18 pitter pat hits bouncing you around for the next 6-7 seconds while you wait to land.
Give me 3 strong hits and hitting the ground a milisecond later any day.
I certainly don't want breakers or any of that nonsense, but just get things over with.
It's like an entire game filled with SF4 Balrogs and Tekken 6 Bobs doing the same stuff over and over. Sure, it takes skill to play...but I don't want to play in the first place.

If you're being hit in a combo, no, there's nothing you can do. It's not like KI with combo breakers.
Well, actually, there kinda is....if your opponent is doing the teammate tag in aerial combos on you, you need to hit S+direction and if you hit the same direction they do, you will end the combo right there. S+down is a ground bounce, S+up hits you up higher, and S+left or right hits you off the wall. If they're repeatedly doing the ground bounce one, they are relying on S+down too much. Good opponents will mix up which way they're going.

If you are blocking, there are things you can do. You can:
-push block ("advancing guard") done by hitting any 2 attack buttons
-hit forward or back+S while in guardstun to do a team tag counter and have your teammate come in, attack the opponent, and stay in (forcing your original character to tag out safely).
-depending on your character, you may be able to do a command throw (Haggar, Thor, Tron), reversal/counter (Wesker, Amaterasu) or super
-you can activate X-Factor

Try different characters and find "safe" moves (that leave you at a frame advantage) or moves that have more priority. That way even if you're throwing out an attack at the same time as they are, yours takes priority and you get your free hit which you can then lead into a combo, super, tag out, etc.

One thing I don't like about this game is the simple mode. But other than that, the game is quite enjoyable.

It's a fighting game after mvc2...of course combos are a big part of it. Actually they're a big part in any fighting game.

What is wrong with simple mode? Helps newbs learn the game quicker. There is a con to it. They don't have all the moves at their disposal. So yeah, they may have one button supers but they aren’t nearly as versatile as a normal mode player.

FYI…Event mode was added sometime this weekend. Looks fun from the little I tried. Adds different effects or goals for Arcade or VS mode. For example, less health or your health is draining while fighting. Another one is only Hyper Combos does damage to opponent. There are about 17 in all.

I love ChrisG's Felicia also.

I'm trying to learn that kitty technology, but damn her links require lightning reflexes I as of yet lack. I've gotten some good aerial combos w/ relaunches down, but I can't quite manage getting those DF+M Toy Touch OTG links right :/

I hate to break it to you, but Street Fighter has bread and butter combos that you will see multiple times as well, if you are playing a good player.

The difference is that combos are stupid easy to do in MVC3 so more people can do them, and they are longer, even if the net damage for a full combo to hyper is the same as a combo to super or ultra.

Your best bet is just to learn the combos or play a keep away character.

I finally got MvC3 and I figured I'd use this statement to start off my thoughts on the game.

Please, do not use that hype term to describe the travesty that is MVC3. It's TVC, NOT Mahvel.

It feels like there is less air maneuvering on super jumps. I miss this because I enjoyed trying to cross-up while diving in.

The call-ins are not as spam-able as in 2. I didn't like this in 2 so I'm actually happy to see it go. It brings the game back to a slightly more focused fight between primary people who can switch out.

The new launcher button is kinda annoying, but in all the same ways the switch from 6 to 4 buttons was in 2. Overall the characters have a 1 or 2 fewer opening moves in 3 than in 2, but it's not a huge change from my perspective as I already lost most of my openers in 2.

It's easier for beginners to pull of combos in this one, but there's still lots of really long chains and/or infinite juggles like in 1 and 2. There's lots of stuff for good people to sink their teeth into and they will continue to dominate casual players.

Overall I think this game strikes a pretty good medium between the frenzy of 3 and the slower pace of the original. It's a perfectly acceptable sequel and I think MvC3 is better game than MvC2 (This statement subject to change, I've only spent one evening with the game so far).

I've heard lots and lots of complaining that it isn't a real sequel and I'm a bit sick of it since nobody ever explains WHY. Team Fortress 2 has many similarities and differences with Team Fortress Classic. I have never liked TF2 much (compared to TFC) but I don't plug my fingers in my ears and pretend it's not a sequel. I understand that internet forums tend to explode with vitriol but I appreciate real discussion and there hasn't been much on the subject of MvC3.

A lot of characters have air dashes, some 8way; those work a lot better for crossups IMHO. But yeah, super jumps are more "floaty" or slow than they used to be.

It took me a little while (few hours maybe) to get used to the new button system but now that I have it works perfect.

I hated spam assists in 2 also but it's pretty similar in 3. There's more of an assist cooldown period after doing an assist in 3, but people still spam them. The new hip thing to do  in 3 is spam assist, airdash or teleport and try to crossup or force your opponent into a "guess which direction will correctly block everything" game.

Odds are if you see anyone playing Dante, 9 times out of 10 they'll do this the whole time. I fucking hate Dante, he's a total scrub character with his ridiculously easy noob friendly teleport and all his linkers from special move into H to chain more hits and repeat ad nauseum.

I hate to say two days ago I was about to totally write off the game online because out of all the matches I played, it was the same lame Dante cheese. I don't have a problem coming up with gameplans against it because it's not hard to do, it's just the fights are boring as hell. Anyway, last night and tonight I played a lot of good matches with people using "legit" stuff, not really any cheese, so I'm happy to keep playing. I did fight 2 people trying to cheese out with Dark Phoenix but in both cases I put an end to that.

My new favorite characters are She Hulk (nasty), Trish (she's annoying to fight against if you play her right and use lots of traps), Dormammu (chaotic flame > all) and Taskmaster (love him, very fun and very powerful).

The patch today (in case you don't know already) primarily got rid of Zero's sogemu snapback glitch and Cap.America's shield slash infinite. There's some other tweaks; all the changes are listed here.
