i don't understand when i am listening to music my cpu load goes to 100%
i've used both nero mix and windows media player
this is on a new build jus like a week old
using abit's sound card
not sure what to do

o yea n the music doesn't sound very good either but that might be my speakers 4.1 altec lansing they're not very good lookin to get new ones soon but this cpu load is killing me

i tried reloading the drivers for the sound but still it takes over
i'm open to ideas

Hmmm, not sure what to say except see what else is running in the background.

The system in my sig runs about 13% CPU usage when playing music.

I am using onboard sound & WinAmp v2.9 as the player. Can't stand Windows media player personally.

employing a different music player may shed some light on the issue
I wouldnt immediately assume that because nero and WMP have the issue that say BSplayer or Classic Media Player would
if they did it could be a driver issue or an OS issue, whereas if they didnt it would be ap specific like possibly a .dll or other incompatibility, or even a drm issue

Actually it may very well be a DRM issue. I had Sony's OpenMG secure driver (this was awhile back) installed, and whenever any audio was played, it kicked in to do it's job, and my CPU usage shot up to 85% or more. I had to uninstall it to correct.

well i'm haven't really done anything but i haven't seen it slow down for a while i'm hoping it stopped.
here are a couple task manager screen shots if those might help but if my cpu load goes up again while playing music i'll be lost.

Have you tried a different media player? Nero and Media Player have been less than kind to my CPU cycles in past experience...

is it possible it would have just happened the first couple of time i opened a media player to get album art n stuff like that

Dude, you're running a whole 46 processes. Make sure you don't have a virus or a trojan first.

With Mcaffe and Zonealarm and AIM, I have about 36 processes running. I don't know what your running thats giving you so many proceses.

i'm pretty sure i don't have a virus or anything but i do have a lot of processes most come from windows and networking though like IIS stuff there are only a few that i could get rid of and really is it that bad to be running a lot of processes

what other media players do u recommend?
i've heard winamps good i might tri it out

Still looks like a background process stepping on your audio streams. Changing players may not fix it.
