So, I'm in the market for some new ram, and I have noticed that there isn't alot of talk about Mushkin, and I'm wondering why.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to memory, and I would like some opinions.

The buzz about Mushkin is pretty much over. There is generally other lesser priced memory of similar quality out there. Additionally there were some very good reviews regarding Mushkin memory and service quality that ended being attributed to people associated with Mushkin so it became hard to believe much of anything you read about the products on the internet.

I use it, always have , only compatiblity issue was with my kids dfi board on some ddr , customer service is excellent

Its expensive but works as advertised and then some. I cannot say the same for my experiences with Corsair except Corsair and DFI are in love with each other. I use Corsair on any DFI board and Mushkin on everything else.

Corsair and Mushkin will always be the gold standard in my book. It's just that too many other companies have come out to compete in the enthusiast world. I'd say it might have started with Geil years ago, although they were more hit or miss. Now we have everyone putting out enthusiast chips, and everyone else putting out diamonds in the rough. Corsair seems to be a more "youthful" company in that it's adapted with the changing times and still reigns as king. Mushkin I feel just didn't put up as much of a fight (hubris? I wouldn't blame them either), and have became more quiet now. Sure, they'd still be great if you didn't want a headache, but many other companies also provide pretty much trouble free products too

edit: That said, Corsair is not a new company either by any means. I remember when I volunteered at a local school to refurbish really old donated computers to serve for word processing. Found a bunch of old fpm 72pin ram and iirc even some cache modules. Didn't even know they were around for that long :) Kind of made my day

I remember couple years ago from a review site(I can't remmeber which now) that disclosed attempts by OCZ to bribe the reviewer into giving favorable review of their memory. From that moment on, I avoided their product no matter how good their spec and price looks.
