I am putting together a new build and was just wondering how much power I would probably need for it. I was thinking about getting the mushkin 550W modular psu, but don't know if it is a good unit. my specs for the build are the p5b deluxe motherboard, an e6420, an 8600gts, 2 dvd drives, 2 hard drives, 2gb ddr2 800 memory, and the x-fi xtremegamer sound card.

thanks

Should be OK with that unit, but the Mushkin HP-550 is somewhat overrated, especially when it comes to that 12 volt rail.

28 amps max on the 12 volt rails combined, even though each rail is supposed to be able to put out 20 amps.

There are better power supplies for the money spent.

I like mushkin, but for the same price, you can get an antec trio, or an ocz for a bit more.

BTW, if you want that sound card for cheap, I'm selling one. Make me an offer it's barely used. :D

As the mushkin is not recommended i was looking at some other modular psus and came across both the thermaltake purepower 500W and 550W for jsut $10-20 more. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Thanks
