Well, as happens so often with computer upgrades, this memory upgrade didn't turn out as I had hoped...sorta. I purchased a dual pack of Mushkin lvl2 black pc3500. I put them in the slots, and it booted. I'm thinkin checkpoint 1 done. It locks up loading windows. Damnit. I take one stick out, it works fine. I overclock it to 3.56ghz which is around 470mhz 2-3-2-5. Works fine. Put the other one back in, won't go over 440mhz. Does 441mhz with 3-4-4-87 timings though. lol what a joke. Well I'm calling mushkin, hoping they will send me another stick. In hte past, they've been cool about it, hoping that happens again. In the meantime, any suggestions or settings that may improve the crappy stick of memory? ANy help would be nice.
 
Do some insane volt-mods (Vdimm @ 3.2V would be awesome :D). By the way, basically the one stick that works isn't crappy. It's rated for 2-2-2-5 and it can do that so you can't really expect more from it. You probably know this, but you need like Vdimm @ 2.9V or higher to get good oc's from Mushkin. Mushkin oc's very well, but maybe they started replacing BH-5 chips with CH-5 chips already :(. You should however get a rma for the bad stick because it simply doesn't work.
 
yea im definetly gonna do a volt mod, i already got the pots and wire, i just need a small soldering tip.
 
Its probably your IC7, if you tried each stick in on its own and it overclocked nicely, then it isnt the RAM.

My board shows the exact same behaviour, with my two BH5 sticks in on their own, one will hit 231MHz 2-3-2-5 and the other 238MHz 2-3-2-5, with 2.8v. However, put them in together and 216MHz 2-2-2-5 or 222MHz 2-3-2-5 is the limit.

A vDIMM mod would help, however in certain cases you just wont get over the boards limit.
 
thats what i thought too until i ran memtest on each stick

results stic 1, the one that does 470mhz 2-3-2-5 = 0 errors, ran for about an hour

results stick 2, the one that wont go past 440mhz no matter what = 2176 errors in 2 minutes 26 seconds before i shut it off from fear of damaging my machine. This was run at 2.8v, 2-3-2-6 timings, stock speed. lol. Thats like 16 errors per second :mad: :rolleyes: :eek:

So i call mushkin, right, and guess what: "The number you are trying to reach is having minor techincal difficulties at this moment. Please try again later":mad: :mad: :mad:
 
well, that blows... and being a dual pack, now you can forget about them being "matched" even though that was all pretty much bs anyway.

sorry to hear about your bad ram.

I would have looked into Kingston HyperX, my shit does 2-2-2-5 when my board's performance mode is switched to standard. I got the cpu-z to prove it.

i got the dual "matched" pack, not the two single sticks. Mushkin didn't answer their phones yesterday due to technical difficulties and now they are not open on the weekends. damnit
