We all know what happens when we try to do too many things at once but does multitasking make you less productive in general? Even worse, can it actually be dangerous or lead to accidents?

Several research reports, both recently published and not yet published, provide evidence of the limits of multitasking. The findings, according to neuroscientists, psychologists and management professors, suggest that many people would be wise to curb their multitasking behavior when working in an office, studying or driving a car.

multitasking on windows is much more dangerous then repetitive tasks working in a mine, sweatshop or textile factory.

Overall I'd say its more productive but I have cut and pasted more than a fair share of content in the wrong document as a result of tabbing around to quickly.
