multiplier question for 6300

hello

i just ran cpu-z and noticed that my 6300 is only running a 6x multiplier?? isnt stock 7x? the chip is on an intel board, no overclocking. it has a scythe ninja for a cooler, and temps are usually around 37C???

why would it only be 6x and not 7x??? thanks for the help.

It is that crap in the bios.......What is it called? Someone? Speedstep or some bs? That is what is doing it. Theres been multiple posts about this. Anyways, it is something you have to disable in the bios.
 
its called something different for different motherboard manufacturers. Also, CPU-Z sometimes doesn't read processor information correctly. I'm sure your processor is fine, although if there is an option in your BIOS for energy saving, i would turn that off.

Yuh huh. Basically, if you leave it as it is, when idle, the processor should run slightly cooler and save a little more energy than if it was running at stock frequencies.
 
It's Speedstep, it's not BS. It's been around for a long time, used in mobile processors. When the comp is idle, it downclocks the processor by changing the multiplier to run cooler and save some power.

My notebook's Pentium M, with speedstep enabled, goes from 1.8 Ghz to 600 Mhz when idle, but when I put any sort of noticeable load on it, it jumps back to 1.8 Ghz. Same thing with my E6300. Goes to 2.4 Ghz when idle, 2.8 when loaded.
