Multiplier jumping back and forth?

Just a quick, dumb question...

I have an old C2D e6300 that I'm no longer overclocking. (everything is set to default)

I noticed under Core Temp that while idle the multiplier is set at 6 (266x6), however during games and anything else that requires heavier CPU usage it jumps to the normal value of 7 (266x7).

What BIOS setting is causing this? What should I change to get it to constantly run at 266x7?
 
turn off c1e, speed step and any intel thermal stuff in the bios. this will get it to run at a constant multiplier. but if you leave this stuff on, you will save power, and your pc wont e running full blast all the time.
 
You need to disable Speed Step from your BIOS. The multiplier jumping is normal because the CPU goes to lower MHz when not under Load (idle) but steps it up once you're under load to the manufacturer's specified MHz (gaming as you stated). This is how it was intended to function so don't worry. Just disable it from BIOS.
 
Normally there's no reason to disable SpeedStep etc, but as vanilla_guerilla pointed, it's possible.
