Multiplier changing motherboards?

I'd like to get a motherboard that is capable of changing the multiplier on my unlocked p4, I currently run it on an IC7 at 4.1ghz, but I'd like to play around with the multiplier to see if I can get higher... before you start tossing out comments like "OMG NOOB, P4'S ARE LOCKED MULTIPLIERS!" I'd like you to know that this a Speedstep cpu, and even if this experiment fails at least I'll have proven that it can't be done once and for all.

the ic7 and almost every other p4 board out all support multiplier changes.

and just because you cpu has unlocked multipliers does not mean it has speedstep. the only processor that have speedstep are mobile processors. there are no desktop motherboards that will run mobile intels.

I think the Pentium 4M's will run in desktop boards.. the Pentium M's will not though.

It's funny that you say that... it already is running a mobile intel
also, where can I go about adjusting the multiplier on the IC7?

BIOS - SoftMenu - CPU Speed to Manual. (if I remember right, my IC7 is at home, I am at work now)

I remember seeing it, but now I can't seem to find it
when you get home, let me know

I have a dumb question about this. I have a cpu that CPU-z says is a 3.2 Prescott ES. It also states that it has a multiplier of 14-16. I know it may be possible to "hack" the chip ID somehow but probably unlikely. I also have an IC7-Max3 board w/ bios 16. But try as I might I cannot find the line to change the multi. I go to Softmenu and set the CPU speed to Manual, but the line you are talking about never appears. I have seen it in the pictures in the Manual but it does NOT appear in my bios screen. Am I going nutz?

Yes.

I mean.. Perhaps they took it out of that version of the BIOS. Try a different version. (be very carefull flashing your BIOS)

What the hell are you cooling that 1.8 with?

I'm sending my board into RMA because my little sister jammed a 12v lead into one of the pci slots, when I get it back I'll get you all benches and such (hopefully it's faster then my FX-53... that would be a laugh). The other thing, I'm lazy, and I need some motivation to RMA it.

im sorry, but i dont believe that you were able to get a 227% overclock on air cooling.

Isnt that just the clock speed? I can take my 2.66 to 3.2 with the exact way you just described and my multiplier is always 20 in CPUz....

the multiplier changing option might not be there unless the board recognizes unlocked multipliers. ill have to check on mine when i get home from school.

Indeed, all his looking in the BIOS will not do anything for a Mobile P4 (speedstep).

That is really only for ES (Engineering Sample) processors.

He should try this program: http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/

Just to see if it does anything for him.
