multiplier changing every few seconds!!

Hey,

I have just built the new pc in my sig and am having a strange issue with cpu-z. It is stating that my multiplier on my cpu is changing from x6.0 to x9.0 (what it should be).

Is this a problem with cpu-z or is my cpu really changing like this? And is there any way to fix it?

Could this be some sort of chipset driver issue? (I have had problems not able to install vista sp1 due to bluescreens?)

It's C1E, it lowers the mult when you're not utilizing the CPU.
It's perfectly normal (by default) and you can disable it in your bios.

You may as well leave it on, though.

yes he's right , its a power management feature
when your cpu is being loaded/strressed, it goes back to 9x

I would leave it on as it lowers power consumption
 
Thanks for clearing that up i thought i was loosing some of my performance!

Managed to get a small overclock on my cpu now running at 3Ghz with a 333Mhz fsb and ram is running at 890Mhz. Might try a bit more after i have made sure this is stable.
 
Why would you put a 9800GX2 in an SLi board?
You should have just bought two 8800 GTS 512's

bad advice, it gives similar results +
-more power consumption with SLI
-more heat, 2 cards in SLI is a nightmare for case temps which means more fans = more noise
-more space taken up thus leaving PCI slots out of commission on certain boards
-even though the 9800gx2 utilizes 2 GPUS, it still scales better then 2 separate G92 cores
-has the option of adding another 9800gx2 for quad sli

you should read some of the sli reviews on [h] enthusiast to get a better understanding of SLI and its negatives..
