Being a newbie I was wondering...

I had been running my Q6600 at 9 x 333 and decided to try 8 x 400.

How does lowering the multplier and raising the FSB affect the voltage requirements? And vice versa?

I had to bump my voltage a tad going with a higher fsb. Fwiw I ran stable @ 356x9 at stock voltage (1.28v) but had to bump it up to 1.3v to go 400x8.

I noticed mine ran great when I tested it at 333x9 and then I tested it at 400x8.
5 minutes in to the test the computer locked up.

I upped the voltage to 1.3v and all is smooth now.

Common push it more!
Set a vcore of 1.35 and go for 3.6 GHz. If tempartures allow of course..

OK I think I got it here.

I set the CPU to:

400x9
CPU voltage at 1.35V

My question is when setting the BIOS like this are these settings the "top end" settings? In other words, it appears with no load it runs at slower speeds and lower voltage so it looks variable to me.
Bear with me. I am learning.

The following screen was taken during an extensive run with two SP2004 progs and a "CPU Stability Test 6.0" running for quite a while.

It did not get to 60c, which I am told is good, and it appears my voltage is OK.
What do you think?

Thanks for the help!

I would let those settingts "burn in" for awhile maybe a week if not more. Before going on. 3.6 Ghz for a Q6600 is just about the average overclock for G0 Steppers.

Most quads require at least 1.4v to hit 3.6.

A "Burn in" period is not necessary.

How long should I stress test the CPU to see if it is stable at this speed?

Apparently I got hold of a good one since the voltage does not need to be raised much?

The amount of Stress testing is completely up to the user.
Personnaly I just use SMP Folding and use the computer as I normally would for testing..

do they? Mine currently is running stable @ 1.3v @ 3.2 ghz (800x4) and it wont go 3.6 400x9! i kept upping the voltage I stopped at 1.4v cause I didn't think it'd need that much considering its only 1.3 at 3200

I'm running 1.4875 in the BIOS, which gives me a no-load voltage of 1.46 (as reported in Everest) and a full-load voltage of 1.42 (again, in Everest).

This gets me to 3.6 GHz right peachy.
