Multiple stereo jack inputs into one output?

Is it possible to just use stereo jack splitter and hook multiple inputs into one speaker set? If I just have one on at a time, would it work?
 
No; you'll get one only one channel of each. You basically need a receiver/integrated amp.
 
No, it would work, of course; I've done that in the past. Obviously it's not the optimal method, but it worked for me when I wanted to have both in-game sounds and play music from my PC through the same speakers, at the same time. :D In any case, it'd be cheap to give it a shot, right? Just get some adapters at RadioShack or somesuch?
