Multiple Monitors (span)

I've been using a 6600GT for the past year, and recently got an X2 4800+ and a X1600XT...

My question is, with the X1600XT, am I able to use Span mode for a multiple monitor setup like I could on my 6600GT? I've tried looking, but can't find anything other than "extend" desktop, which doesn't provide the desired effect :(, as it leaves my taskbar on one monitor, and when using fullscreen applications the secondary monitor stays active) .. Anyone know if theres a way I can set it up to use span?

you may have to try something along the lines of Matrox TripleHead2Go which will trick windows into thinking it's one big desktop. Although it might be a bit expensive but it could work as a last resort :)
 
Well, I did it with my 6600GT, so I probably wouldn't have to do something like that.. but one would think that a feature like this would be commonplace on all the new video cards, it's a little bit disappointing that my 6600GT can do it, but my X1600XT can't do it :( .. (or atleast I haven't figured out how yet)
 
yeah tis strange but all my logic says it should be possible just a matter of figuring out how.
 
If i remember correctly, the answer is no, unless ATI has changed their drivers lately (which i would assume they have). When you go into span mode on an nvidia flavor it basicly tells windows that both monitors are one. If you can find that setting inside the ATI driver that will do it, but windows by default does not do it.

Thats what I was afraid of.. Oh well, I'll just have to make do with what I have until I can afford to go back to Nvidia. Thanks for the help!
