Multiple GX2s or 295s = boot issues?

Ok this is the first time i experienced this. But I had to boot a good dozen times to get the flipp'n mobo to recognize that I had all 3 cards plugged in. Once it booted it was fine, but upon a shutdown I had the same issues. It likes to change which card is primary adn give me the error you have your primary card in slot 3, etc.. Anyone else have that issue?

Lets just hope I never have to do anything with that box for a while :p Does the 790i based mobo's or other Quad PCIE boards have the same issues?

What power supply or supplies are you using, and how is everything hooked up? I noticed that I was having trouble getting Windows to recognize the cards powered by my 2nd PSU. I've read other posts where power issues were behind similar problems.

Hey Sunin,

I just threw 2 9800GX2s in a box with WinXP 32bit and the latest nvidia drivers - box would boot, and just when the desktop was about to appear, BSOD with nvd_disp error.

Removed the drivers, went back to 178.XX and the box booted right up, no problem.

Its now folding away. Just a thought...

I had problems with just the latest drivers, so I install 178.28 CUDA drivers, and then install the latest 181.20 drivers on top of them. I think the latest driver install might be missing something included with CUDA, but just running the 178.28 drivers causes high CPU usage.

It could be a bios space issue.
Depending on the order the bios loads devices, you could be running out of room to load the third vid card.
I would try and remove/disable anything not needed so as to make a little more room in the bios for the devices you dont need.

Luck ............ :D

I'm using a 780i mobo. I have disabled a lot of things, No audio, etc.

bet 50 bucks its the board.. since the nvidia chipsets suck with multiple cards.. i cant remember who it was, think it was kendrak that had the same issues with multiple 700 series motherboards..

Yeah, I remember Kendrak having lousy luck running multiple 9800GX2 on a Nvidia chipset. After he switched to a P35 (or P45, don't remember) board, all work great ;)

Funny thing is 3 88GTX's = no issues at all, 3 98GX2's and I have issues...

3 8800GTX = 3 gpu's 3 9800GX2's = 6 gpu's.. see the difference now? :p and thats where everyone is running into trouble with the nvidia chipsets..

I think you are onto it Tiger, but what else should I look at. I think I have serial ports disabled. I can look at disabling one of the network ports and the PS/2 port as I'm using USB, but besides that what else?

How many HDDs are you running? If you're running only one (assumed a dedicated boxen), then you could turn off all of the other SATA ports
