Well in short I gave my old System(signature) to my father in law, videocard was a Gigabyte 6850. Problem in is old system he use to have 2x Ati 45xx and running 4 screens. The 6850 only supports 2 monitors without dp use.
Now thats no longuer possible, easy fix is active DP but here in finland thats roughly 130+, however since he seen my htpc setup he also wants to have is tv connected to is pc, so essentially he would require 4 monitors +hdmi for tv.
I tried putting 1 of the 4550 into the pc, hence monitor problem resolved but as soon as he tried to pass any audio or use vlc/mpc-hc/XBMC the program just freezes. Figured this was due to bitstream audio. Guessing it is because the old 4550 did not support this and as both are using the "same driver packages" this causes issues.
He does not require anything fast he only plays web games and seldomly. So my question is would a newer card that also support bitstreaming, say low end r7 or 7k series work as well? Or would I have the same problem with programs locking up? As looking at new cards that support 4-5 monitors and all require dp use as well, would rather get a cheaper card for him.
Any recommendations or opinions is appreciated.
