multipage documents scanning

hello!

I want to scan many multipage documents

now, I place one to the scanner, scan it, remove it from the scanner, save it, place the second and so on

this procedure is time consuming and most important, it requires me to be all the time near the scanner, to check when it finishes with one document, so to load the next

what I would like to do, is to have a scanner where I will feed it one time with all the multipage documents (the feeder should accept as many as possible pages) and click the SCAN button once, and scan all the multipage documents altogether, and come back to the scanner when it has finished all the documents

the only problem with this, is how to identify the distinction between the multipage documents, to make the scanner or PC identify where there is the end of a multipage document and the begining of the other, so that it will split the pdf accordingly

do you have any idea about this distinction?
also, any scanner that has multipage feeder?

I use an Epson Workforce 840, and it's great for low volume. Adobe Acrobat is what I use to scan documents, handles multipage well.

I've never used one but it looks pretty sweet. Expensive, though.

but I am not sure you have understand, that I need to somehow indicate the distinction between the pages of each documents, when I feed them all in the scanner

There are many scanners with multipage feeders (I have one that does double-sided multipage scanning), but I don't of any that do what you are asking it to do.

Technologically, how would it know the difference between one page and the next? You would have to at least manually enter the number of pages or have some sort of identifier slip sheet to put in between that the scanner was keyed into knowing signified a new document.

I would probably just stick in solid color slip sheets or something similar, scan a pile at once, and then break up the PDF manually. The "automatic" way involves a secretary

A quick Google search turns up solutions using identifier sheets for batch scanning.

The plugin isn't cheap, but if you do anywhere near 1000 sheets per day, it may be worth it.

Not exactly what you want but I use a Fujitsu Scansnap S1500. It can scan up to 50 pages in one batch (2-sided, both are scanned at the same time) and comes packaged with a full copy of Adobe Acrobat. I can open Acrobat and break break apart pages/connect pages after they are scanned. It won't do it automatically but you wouldn't have to babysit each batch. That would still take around 20 batches through for 1000 pages.

there must be some scanning program that will offer this as a cheaper solution
since it will be a feature of the general program and not a specific program for this job, it will be much cheaper, imo
