Multi-Monitors in Windows 8

I've read that in Windows 8 with a dual monitor setup, the metro screen defaults to one screen and the desktop to the other.
That's fine, but what about when you want to span the desktop across both monitors? Do you actually have to go and change the settings every time or is there an easy way to toggle the metro UI on/off on the 2nd monitor?

Nope, it works fine with dual monitors... I'm using it now, nothing to setup. When you go to the desktop it brings it up on both monitors.

When you go to the metro interface it only uses 1.

switching to desktop shows my desktop.....on both monitors. I use startisback so I dunno if thats the default behavior.

I can also hit ctrl + windows key to bring up/close the metro start screen on my 2nd monitor while keeping my primary monitor on the desktop

Go to devices, there you can set what your second screen does.

Ah, I see. That sounds like it will work just fine then. Thanks guys!

One other thing, are the ATI drivers for older cards (2-3 years) likely to work with Win 8?

Yeah, just think of the Start Screen as a full screen Start Menu. It works the exact same way. Go to the desktop, it minimizes the start screen and you will have full use of the desktop across both screens.

One thing I'm sure you will like is the taskbar cloning across the screens.

Awesome. Thanks. I guess I'm gonna try installing this thing a little later.

I wont be running Win8 as a main OS, but I bought 1 copy since I'll be supporing it for several others who are forced into using it.

We got our calls today to just stay home for the storm Monday, so I'll probably use the time to set it up on a spare SSD. Thanks a lot for the multiple monitor link, most of the PC's I'll support have 2 or 3 screens and this will save me tons of time.

I wish I had the money on hand to build a new PC for this, but oh well. I know it should run smoothly on my current box for what little time I'll use it.

Thanks again!

I've just installed windows 8, and am starting to get used to it. But there are a few annoyances.
Is it possible to bind the start screen to ALWAYS open on a particular screen?
I find that every open settings or something from the charms menu on my primary display, the start screen gets shifted to my primary screen and then I have to re-trigger it on the second display to get it to come up there again.. Not a huge deal. But it gets annoying after a while

The Start Screen when opened with the hot corners will open on that screen and when the Windows key is used will open on the screen with current Meto focus. It's is a little weird at first but I actually like behavior now. What I don't like is then the Metro app screen changing when the Start Screen is opened on another screen. The Metro app moves from on screen to other without explicit instruction.

Keeping the start screen always opening on one monitor would also solve that issue.
It just seems like a more cohesive way for the UI to work IMHO.

That's my annoyance with multi-monitor as well. Wondering if there is some setting or if this is a functionality they will add in the future. Multi-monitor is something that really works well in 8 and a full-time screen for metro would take it to the next level.
