I need some advice and/or suggestions, along with any personal experiences as far as Multi-Function printers go.

I went through Staples and BestBuy.... which mainly seemed to display Brother or HP multi-function printers. I am looking for one that can produce decent results; though the time it takes to print isn't really much of an issue. Also looking for colour scanning abilities - again, decent enough to pick up some small type and whatnot. Doesn't have to be able to pick up cell lines of someone's rear end :D And of course, fax is a bonus.

One more thing... and something I have not seen yet, a multi-function printer with individual cartridge carriage for the colours. I find this very useful as it can save money if one colour seems to waste faster than the others.

Anyhow, any suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you.

i use an hp psc 2110

it seems to have decent scan resolution (i've only needed it for some documents so far)

and it prints pretty well...

the only downsize is the small cartridge size.

Have you checked out the Epson CX5400?

It's got seperate ink cartridges and fast print speeds. The scanner is pretty good too.

Staples and Best Buy carries them.

The Epson CX series are very good machines. HP will r@pe you on ink.

HP will rape you on ink is right. I have a PSC 900 fax/copy/scan and man oh man I go through ink like crazy.

The newer hp printers are pretty good on black. The 56 cartrige goes for 20 bucks and gets you about 500 pages. Color they rape you on. I think epson is the other way around. They help you out on the color because of the individual cartriges, but kill you on the black. I would look at what you are going to do the most of. If you are going to do alot of printing, maybe a color laser would be an option. They have come down alot in price and can be found for about 400 and toss in a 50 dollar scaner and you have a much better set up. Just a thought.

Oh yeah...the cx series is really good...as is the 2110 from hp.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty much set on the CX5400. I am also considering the Lexmark X6170 desite the lack of seperate colour cartidges - it does come with an auto-feeder and fax.

Anyway, I would have gotten the CX5400 today but Staples.ca is conveniently out of stock and they don't have a backorder system.

Not going to go with the Lexmark anymore; price difference is too much even for the added fax. 100+ CAD. Again,a shame that Staples doesn't have the CX5400 in stock though. Staples had a coupon dealy going on right now that takes $50 off any order over 100 plus stacks with the 20 dollar off 200 one. Plus the mail in rebate... looked very nice but they won't get stock till after the 20th, when the coupon thing ends.

Thank you all for your input.

I have a HP PSC 2110 also. Great machine in my opinion. Photo's print well, it scans well, and the included software works great.

Actually, the HP printers are cheaper per page than the Epson printers.

Here a review over at Tom's to back that up
LINK ...I know it's Tom's but who else ever reviews printers anymore?

i am personally employed at best buy and we sell quite a bit of these with happy results, it ended up me buying one for my girlfriend and i use it more then i use my own at home :p , so go with that, right now we are having a sale on them i think it is 129 bucks after mail ins, you should go get it, they are intensly awesome

Seems like every major retailer/online computer store is out of stock on the CX5400. Even the Epson website is out of stock.

Either my luck sucks or some ET plans world domination with the chips inside this All In One

OK, I have a Canon MP 740. Copies, Scans and does photos like none other. Has 4 ink cartridges black, cyan, magenta and yellow (higher models have another higher grade cyan and magenta) they all sell for less that 15 apiece even at BB. The next model # up has fax capabilities. IRC I paid ~300 USD for it. This thing rocks, I love it, I recomend it to anyone buying a multifunction printer. Print times for regular stuff is pretty good to.
