Just kind of curious to know who makes a good performing USB2.0 or Firewire multi-format card reader. Like an 8-in-1 reader that can read SD, XD, MS, CF.... etc.

Theres a ton of them out there, and the one I currently have is an old Sandisk USB1.1 CF reader. I've since went to SD not long ago, and I want something that has some quick read/write times and can read multiple formats. I will mostly be using CF and SD, as that is what my Canon EOS Digital Rebel and Magellan Meridian use.

Anyone out there know of any good make/models?
If internal... looking for 3.5" version that will fit in floppy drive bay and uses internal headers to connect to the PC, or if external (preferred)... nothing too bulky as it will probably get mounted on the side or the bottom of a shelf on my desk.

So far I've kinda been looking at Sandisk's 8-in-1 reader, but I don't really like how it stands vertically on the desk... (as I want to mount it on the side or the bottom of a shelf), a Transcend 7-in-1 reader, or the Lexar 12-in-1 reader.

if that sandisk 8in1 is like my sandisk 6in1 (it probably is, looks the same), it pops out of the stand and you could use double sided tape or something to stick it horizontally to the desk. You will need to buy a longer mini-usb cable though. The reader uses a mini-usb jack instead of the regular size. Theres only a short one included in my pack for using it without the stand.

The 6in1 works fine for me.
 
honestly, if it says "USB2.0 Hi-Speed", they should perform about the same.

To be honest, I think all of them are made by the same 2 or 3 companies and just rebadged and sold to a larger company, who in turns sells it under their banner.

Just pick up the cheapest one at a Fry's and you'll be fine (have had my Mediagear brand (which was free after MIB)) for about a year, works great.
 
I have a Mitsumi 7 in 1 reader. Haven't had any problems for all three months of use it has had.
 
I've got a Lexar 7-in-1 (from Futureshop) and it works great, actually has a decent sized cord.. it's worked well with the XD/Smartmedia/Compact Flash cards i've thrown at it..

At this point anything would be better than transferring 100MB+ to my Magellan with a serial cable... :rolleyes:
