Multi displays on one computer, but with different native resolutions

Couldn't decide whether this should be posted here or in software section, but since more related to hardware differences am trying here first.

Past year have been using two 24" 1200x1920 displays, one landscape and one portrait on same computer for photo work. Previously, I rotated a single display, but that really cuts productivity.

Using Windows display settings to extend the screens, which has worked okay so far. If I use monitors having different native resolutions, it defaults to setting both monitors to the lowest resolution of the two, leaving black bars to center the displayed image.

As I find myself planning for a 27" to perhaps 30" landscape monitor with higher pixel count (say 1440x2560), I would like to continue using one 24" 1200x1920 for the portrait view. Windows OS display control does not cooperate well for this. A 24" portrait monitor is about as tall as I can use easily from a seated position and is adequate for portraits up to about 12x18" view and print size. Larger sizes I outsource final edits and prints.

Do you know of any software available to control two different resolution monitors using their full screen area (no black bars)? At this time I am doing homework before spending for equipment. I know I can use two computers, but that involves more software expense and consolidating image modifications.

Appreciate all tips or suggestions.
 
I ran different resolutions in the past just fine.
I had 1440x900, 1920x1080, and 1440x900 in extended desktop mode.

If you are cloning a display, that is when you have the issue with different resolutions, but extended desktop has no issues.
I ran mixed resolutions back in the Win2k day with a pair of mismatched CRT's.

It's pretty much the same as Win 7. Go to Display Properties, select the monitor and choose the resolution.

I can't find any screenshots of my setups back in the day with the mixed screens, just a current on,

Thanks for the commentaries. I am using Win 7 on all the computers involved -- my signature is about two computer builds out of date. Actually use six desktop computers plus a laptop at this location. Will get the signature updated this icy week while no desire to go outside. ---- DONE----

I have one monitor dying currently so have shuttled some equipment to where it is most needed. I ordered another 24" 1200x1920 monitor last night as a direct replacement for the dying monitor. New monitor expected about Monday if weather does not delay shipment.

Interesting info ... Had not noticed this distinction.... I will go back and rerun several setup trials as soon as I can (have to move some equipment) to see if this has been my main problem. If so I will celebrate loudly as it will reduce current investment need greatly.

Thanks to all. Am reloading Windows and software on my main computer this week as 1st priority, then will begin resolving this issue. I am encouraged by what I have read here today. Should be able to report back about Tuesday.

I ran mixed resolutions since I wasn't able to always afford buying pairs or triples of the same screen at the same time, and when I could afford another screen, the matching one would be discontinued so I'd get whatever was on sale. My triple setup consists of a Samsung, HP, and Viewsonic 1080P 23" screens.
