I'm currently running 4870's in crossfire and I use a 24" 1920x1200 display as my main display and a 23" 1920x1080 display in portrait mode. I'd like to be able to connect another 22" 1920x1080 display on my desk and my 58" 1920x1080 plamsa TV on the other side of the room. Right now I can connect them all with crossfire disabled but I'd like to be able to use all 4 at the same time and still have top gaming performance.

I assume there is no way to use all for with my 4870's and crossfire enabled, a secret hack would be nice. I'm open to buying a new video card to do this but would like to see a performance increase too, I don't need to use eyefinity for gaming I'd like to be able to use each display for different things but wouldn't mind being able to enable my 58" plasma as my primary display from time to time to play games on.

What would work? I'm thinking a 6970 but not sure if it'll do exactly what I want. The 24" is DVI and the 58" is HDMI both the 22" and 23" support display port inputs but I'm currently using DVI with them.
 
As far as I know, Crossfire can only be enabled with monitors of the same size / resolution. Without Crossfire enabled, each card will output to the monitors as normal, but you'll only be able to game on one at a time. A 6970 will not allow you to do what you want to do. That is assuming I understand you right.
 
If i read the OP's post i think a 6970 would be a very viable option, the OP doesn't seem to be interested in Crossfired 6970, but rather replace their Crossfired 4870's with a single 6970.

If that is the case, then yes, the 6970 is a good replacement, you will be able to run all 4 monitors off of the card, and game at the same time....if you want to crossfire them, then I have no idea, as i have never used Crossfire.....

Crossfire will be an issue down the line. As my post indicated, Crossfire will not work for what you want to do. I don't know about the regular 6970, but the 6970 6 head cards can do what you want, but not two of them in Crossfire. Crossfire and SLI only work with multiple monitors if your setup meets the requirements of Eyefinity or Surround. And that will force you to use all the monitors at once when gaming. Even if you choose a single monitor resolution, you'll just end up with active black screens on the other monitors.

Dan- I believe you are mistaken. I run crossfire 6850s and use 3 different sized monitors currently. I do not game on all of them, but I can set any one of them to be primary and game on it. I believe this is what the OP is interested in. As long as all of the displays are connected to the same (primary) card, it doesn't matter. Thanks... but of course this is the reason I posted. Very hard to find the actual answer as some people say its fine and others say it won't work. I understood it the way you expalined it but have had people tell me it won't work so I posted here. I'm hoping someone with two 6970's will chime in.

6970's should not react any differently than 6850s. I really don't understand how it would NOT work. With SLI maybe since you have to use the outputs from 2 different cards, but on Crossfire, it shouldn't matter since its still all outputs from the same card. As long as you aren't gaming on multiple displays at once it shouldn't matter.
 
You can use Eyefinity even if not all monitors are of the same resolution. Only the monitors that are in the same display group must be.

So if you are willing to operate your 24" at 1920x1080, then you can join the three monitors into one display group, and put the TV in its own group.

Been awhile since I had my Eyefinity setup, but yeah, a separate display group might do it.
