multi core gpu's

i wonder if dual core or multi core gpu's are possible, exactly how the cpu's are made now. if so, what are they waiting for?
 
All GPU's are multi core in nature, all those stream processors or what they are called on the current generation is basically a little GPU core.

Alternatively they can slap two GPU chips onto one board, which is what you get with a Nvidia GTX690 & Radeon 6990. The problem is keeping the damn things cool as they pump out ~300 watts of heat.
 
The GTX 680 (or, more properly, the GK104 GPU that is on the GTX 680) has 1536 cores.
 
Even the GeForce 256 back in 1999 had multiple execution units (aka cores). So GPU's have been multi-core far longer than desktop CPU's have been.

i was really confused about this matter.

CPU, which is also a general purpose processor, requires many supporting functions for it to carry out its processing task. Its like you have one worker who carries out the actual arithmetic/logic function, but he need to be supported by 100 people who do other task like branch prediction, scheduler and so on. Not the mention the significantly larger cache memory that a general purpose processor needs.

Because of how complex a CPU is by its nature, traditionally we could only build one inside a chip. These days, we're able to squeeze more cores into a chip but they are still very large.

A GPU on the other hand, are very simple by nature. Its actual units that does the processing task is so simple that you can cramp dozens, and thousands of them these days into a chip. GPU also operates with very little cache, while the die of a modern CPU may have up to 50% or more of its area consisting of SRAM cells alone functioning as the cache memory.
