Multi-Core CPU PhysX does work, coming in next version of PhysX Fluidmark

I’m currently updating Geeks3D’s PhysX FluidMark tool and from my last tests, multi-core CPU support in PhysX seems to be ok (that confirms what NVIDIA said in this news)… At least on my dev station with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 and an AMD X2 3800+.

Yes Physx on a 3800+X2 will be epic fast!!! /rolls eyes

Come on we need to test it with some GOOD procs, not ones that EOL.

You can see in the first video that this company talks about using Physx as a middleware and it being processed on the CPU...

This doesnt surprise me at all...not in the least...if Havok can do what it does on the CPU then theres no reason that Physx effects cant be done on CPU either...my BIG concern is that since Physx games have been developed for use on a GPU, what kind of impact will that have on the CPU? Even a stronger quad core (i.e. i7, C2Q, Phenom II)...

If they can get it working and it does well, I wonder if every Physx based game will be supported then by CPU, or if it'll have to be implemented on future games for CPU use...

My guess is that the CPU would actually do quite well really. I mean, considering some of the games out there than have nice Physx effects like Cryostasis have to be done on a card that is doing both Physx and video processing. Plus, most games dont even utilize quad cores...and if they dont you arent going to see each core maxed out...my guess is that Physx on CPU will be damn easy to run...I mean, really, looking at most Physx games theres not really a lot going on that couldnt be done easily on the CPU to begin with! Ohh...bouncing sparks from gun fire! IMPOSSIBLE ON CPU!!1!
