muffled sound after a reformat

I reformatted yesterday (made the change from xp home to pro). Ever since I reinstalled my audio drivers my sound quality has been noticeably worse than it was before. Sound isn't horrible and works correctly (the right sounds from the right channels, etc) but it is noticeably muffled sounding and bass heavy. I have tested with both my speakers and headphones and can easily notice the difference. I have reinstalled my drivers and tried with every combination of internet updates i could find. I know it isnt my media program (foobar2000) because i've tried with foobar, itunes, and wmp. All my settings appear to be fine. I think i have them exactly how they're always been. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
could someone possibly recommend another comp audio forum to check out if this no one has any suggestions here?
 
Did you install the ZS drivers from the CD? If so, did you update the drivers afterwards from the Creative site? And what speakers settings do you have set in the ZS control panel?
