MSN Messenger Install Error

Getting Error 1601 during MSN install.


I followed the steps upon a google searched link:

On step 1 of this during windows installer script update version 8 - I cant succesfully get the patch to download. So I go to another computer and place it on a disk and bring it over and stumped with an error below:


"The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if running in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correlty installed."

Any ideas?

Ive been on windowsupdate to grab all the patches and have rebooted still message.
 
Maybe you can reinstall the installer. :p
Anyway, if you have XP, it might not overwrite. What about System Restore? Maybe XP will overwrite, who knows? Whatever, here's a link.

Curious is the fact that a lot of us spend hours trying to get rid of MSN forever. Go figure. :rolleyes:
