This is just so wrong in so many ways…and I think that is why we like it so much. LN2 or not, a 785MHz overclock on a 1.6GHz Atom processor is pretty damn good. Heh, and you guys thought the nine cell battery made the Wind bulky.

Want other reasons to consider the MSI Wind? Watch our video review, we think you’ll like it.

oh this is from TEAM.AU!! awesome!! ridiculous.. but entertaining nonetheless.. i saw this earlier today... :D

You guys should review the Samsung NC10 - feels a lot nicer IMO, but I've only had play time with the Wind at BB.

If that's not [H]ard, I don't know what is. Taking a mini-notebook and overclocking the hell out of it is full of awesome in my book.

yeah i've had the chance to have a good play with the msi 1000.. its an awesome unit, puts all the eeepcs to shame....

Pretty interesting project. Not exactly "googleable" like most LN2 setups are these days. Props to them.

I wonder if that LN2 is really necessary.. The Atom only puts out 2W at stock - I doubt that would suddenly jump to like 120W at 2.3 GHz. a decent air cooler should achieve identical overclocks, IMO. Even the stock fan might be enough considering some Atom systems are fanless.

Some people just have to much free time on their hands.
as pointless as it may be, as long as its fun for the people doing it, that's all that matters

If we just go about our everyday routine doing useful and necessary stuff only, life would be very boring.:p

We had actually planned to do it during our Adelaide sessions about a month ago but unfortunately the original unit was dead on arrival so instead we did things like breaking the PCMark05 record with four i-RAMs across two systems and a handful of other records too. I still find the PCMark05 system a bit of a laugh:

Heheh, actually kinda true but not for a good reason :(

You see, pro is actually fighting luekaemia at the moment and does his best to pass the time during his chemo by overclocking and playing around with hardware - it's something to keep the focus away from the shitty situation.

If you want to know a little more about pro and his overclocking, check out issue #1 of The Overclocker at www.theoverclocker.com

It's amusing for our team because we knew that it'd get a reaction outside of the extreme overclocking circles but within as little as 12 hours the coverage has spread like a wild fire. Perhaps the most amusing though are some of the slashdot/engadget comments along the lines of 'this isn't a 24/7 solution! cry, whinge, cry, cry!'

Stock is ~4W and although there is a sizeable jump in heat output above about 2.2GHz, pro's limitation was actually available vcore voltage. Consider this round 1 and round 2 to come once the vmods are done and we're finish laughing :p

Hit the nail on the head mate!

The members of Team.AU enjoy overclocking for many reasons. From the hardcore competitive overclocking scene through to OC'ing stuff simply because we can. As long as it puts a smile on our face; we're stoked.

If you like what James did with the MSI Wind, he recently had his way with a new Linksys router - suss it out here: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?p=9696292

And now, back to lurking :p

It's not your problem they don't have a portable LN2 tank :p

Stock is ~4W

The Desktop version of the Atom has a TDP of just over 4W. The mobile version, which the MSI Wind and other Netbooks use has a TDP of slightly over 2W. Ironically, the mobile chipset used in most netbooks uses almost 12W :p

It might theoretically be able to do that, but at full load with the screen at max brightness with wifi on my wind only draws 14W from the wall so the chipset can't be taking 12W of power.

Yop, the wind has a bios update that will allow it. I need to get around to installing it on mine. :(

too bad one can't do a massive oc when it's still in the shell =/

You'd carry around a trashcan for a laptop with that oc'ing contraption! ha
