just bought the msi r9 280x gaming... my desire was for a r9 290, or saphire toxic 280x, but i did not want to raise my electric rates....anyhow...anyone here have the msi r9 280x, and give me some thoughts on it...i should get it this week

I only have an R9-280 but it overclocks like a dream (Sapphire) .. when I want above 290x or 780Ti performance well I turn my crossfire on..

i bought the asus r9 290,,,$260...things seem a bit quicker than when i had my msi r9 270x in my rig...going to sell the msi r9 270x.....i bought a 280x from buy.com from best buy marketplace...going to rma.....the r9 290 sure a big card....what about your drivers...you using the ones from amd?

I just got my hands on one of these yesterday actually. Only paid £145 for it on eBay and I've been very impressed. I previously had an Asus DirectCU II TOP 280X that artifacted out of the box (likely due to the stupidly high factory overclock on the memory), but have had no such problems with the MSI one so far. It's every bit as silent as the Asus one was and temperatures are similar. Haven't cranked the overclock up much so far - just to 1100 core and 1525 memory, but it's fine like that at stock voltages.

The only bad thing I've heard about them is that earlier revisions weren't as good. Mine's the 1.2 revision manufactured this year, but apparently there were overheating problems with the earlier ones.

I've never had the msi r9 280x gaming but you made the right choice in not getting the sapphire toxic. I've been through 2 of these and they start artifacting pretty hard after a couple of months of use. Yes it does have a great cooler but honestly, overclocked all r9 280x are about the same.

I had one for a day and it had coil whine during gaming, so I returned it and got a gtx 780 lightning instead.
