This is the only 7870 that I would consider spending $350 on.
 
Looks nice, might consider this or a 7950 Twin Frozr if the 670/680 availability does not improve in the next 2ish weeks. Would run BF3 1920x1200 pretty well for the price.
 
TPU says $380 ...way overpriced! 7950 is same price and faster stock and has 300+mhz of overclock headroom easy which will destroy this card whatever it overclocks. Actually, newer Tahiti are clocking to 1250Mhz easy so 450Mhz overclock is easily attained with 7950.

7870 needs to be below $300 to even begin to make sense.

Yes you are right. The HD 7870 needs a price correction to USD 300 or USD 280. But for that to happen Nvidia needs to push for the rest of the GK104 cards launch.
 
Guess AMD does not like selling video cards then. I bet they would have sold tons @$299 but hardly none bit on $359. I read something from a UK distributor that 570s and 448's were selling better due to heavy discounts .. Old cards outselling far superior 7870 just because AMD is too hard headed.

AMD pricing and marketing has always sucked though. Guess what when card finally hits $299 it's too late. For example I bought a 448 loling at 7870 price tag and am good until next ~$250 deal comes around.

28nm product supply is limited by fab capacity. Also 28nm wafer prices will be more given its the bleeding edge node. 40nm capacity is much much more and cheaper. Pricing is decided by product competitiveness and also product volume. Thats the reason you can see 7870 at higher prices. AMD cannot supply any more HD 7870 than what they are doing now. So if these products are selling well at current prices why would AMD lose money by cutting prices.
That said if Nvidia prices GTX 670 at USD 399 then AMD will need to push HD 7870 to USD 299. Nvidia's GTX 670 volume should be much more than GTX 680. So AMD would rather win customers at USD 299 than lose them to GTX 670, which they would if they kept pricing at USD 349 - 369.
 
But they are not selling well. People are buying 7850s as low as $219 so it's not like 7870 couldnt be cheaper considering its same card. AMD just isnt selling that many. You can tell at newegg 7870 never go oos. 7870 hardly have any reviews. It was a mistake how anyone can argue otherwise?

Missed opportunity IMO with tons of ppls buying cheap 7850s and nvidia 40nm 570s/448s last few months that would have purchased $289-299 7870s.

I would have been all over this if the price was the same back when I started this thread. Such an awesome card. If I didn't have such a boss Sapphire HD7950 950mhz edition card I would consider selling HD7950 to try this Hawk HD7870 out. It looks like a great card for the money.

actually at current prices this card is not as attractive as HD 7950 OC cards selling for 40 bucks more. HD 7950 has been the best price perf card this generation and remains so even today.
