MSI Power Edition R7850

Problem is full cover reference waterblock will not work on it. MSI does hook up air clockers though.

Swiftech and EKS both make universal gpu blocks to fit gpu fine.

Yeah but you still have to cool vrms somehow and memory is desirable too. That's why ppl buy full cover blocks instead of GPU only solutions for half price.

I agree that full VGA block is the best way to go but sometimes you have to improvise.

I cooled my MSI TFIII Power Edition GTX 560 ti 448 with custom rigged gpu block and a Koolance VRM block.

I don't think the memory is as important to cool off as much as GPU and VRMs.

Works well. I would rather get a top notch performing video card and improvise on water cooling if necessary then get a card that doesn't perform as well just to put a full cover VGA block on it.

Looks nice. I have the MSI Twin Frozr 7850 and mine is a great overclocker. With no voltage adjustment, mine will do 1150/1450 without an issues. Runs really cool and quiet as well. This version looks basically like the HAWK version of the 7870.

glad to see its only 10 bucks over msrp...but what a wasted review...took it to 1050 and thats it lol.

I agree, I was going to post the same thing you did but decided not to since its not the OP fault for linking it. The review was garbage though, you don't buy a card like that not to overclock it to its limits and 1050 is not the limit of that card, I guarantee it. Mine is basically the same card (7850 Twin Frozr version) and mine goes to 1150 so I'm sure that one would do near the same if not slightly more.

yeah not hating on ops post, glad to hear anything at all, been waiting for about a month(?) on any more news since its reveal. Im hoping it hits around 1400MHz like the 7870 hawk does so that most people can realistically push 1250-1300+

I should add that mine does 1150Mhz with no voltage adjustment, I've read about some that do up to 1300MHz with voltage adjustment. I may try that over the next few days and see if mine gets above 1250MHz.

Does anyone know when it will be available at major online retailers? Only place I saw it was on total power PC and it's OOS.

They didn't say that they adjusted the voltage but there's simply no way that card will clock to 1250MHz without more voltage and the power consumption numbers reflect the increase as well. The load power consumption jumped about 150w at the clocks they were running and that can only mean they applied a good bit of voltage to get there. Its actually pretty dissapointing that they had to apply that much voltage to get there because the load power consumption increased so much that it was drawing more than a stock 7950 and 7970 which are both still quicker than that card at 1250MHz. I wish I was able to see what that card would do at default voltage or near it. A 150w load power consumption increase is riduculous.

while not apples to apples (but pretty close imo) the 7870 hawk in this review

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/HD_7870_HAWK/31.html

does about the same OC with the default bios of the card. Voltage in the 7850 PE might be different/higher then a typical 7850 to begin with, but i say they still have some of room. Even at stock clocks this thing probably draws more watts in general just because of the advanced PCB having more headroom but therefore not being as efficient while @ stock settings.

You guys think I should wait for it or just go with the MSI R7850 Twin Frozr OC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127663

if your in no hurry i would wait if your into OC'ing, some kind of solid info should be turning up within a couple of weeks, but in all honesty the MSI 7850 is still a safe bet that I think you would be happy with. Personally I'm on a Guild Wars 2 time frame for upgrading so im not too worried about it yet :>

I have the MSI Twin Frozr 7850 and its a great card for $260. It overclocks to 1150/1500 with no voltage adjustment. Usually runs about 60-64c and I can hear the fans running on the auto profile. Its quite a performer at its price point when overclocked. Its almost as fast my previous 5850 crossfire setup at stock clocks and even faster in some benchmarks.

This card isn't available at newegg yet but you can find it on Amazon.

nice, anyone getting this card? The disappointing OC reviews have kind of killed my hype till i hear some user experiences.

edit: also i just checked it out, its a laughable 290 @ TD and amazon. Trying to cash in on a new card. meh

Its basically the same card as a 7870, its just doesn't come OC'd to 1000Mhz from the factory, sure its has a few less shaders but that's practically irrelevent. Both the 7870 and 7850 overclock to near the same limits, and at the same speed the cards are very close to each other, just doesn't make much sense to buy a 7870 unless you just refuse to overclock. The 7850 is an awesome bargain at its price. The 7870 has a bit more default voltage due to the higher factory clock speed but that's nothing you can't adjust with some third party tools.
