Is this a good graphic card compare to eVGA, BFG, XFX? This is the the OC version, and it is the first one below $500 before mail-in rebate.

All cards are manufactured from the same place so yes your MSI should perform just fine. Their warranty however is sub par which is why most people recommend EVGA, XFX or OCZ as they offer a lifetime warranty as well as warrant overclocking, thermal paste changes, cooler changes, bios flashes etc. The MSI offers none of that leaving you in the dark if something were to go wrong with the card. I think it is worth the extra coin for the peace of mind of knowing you are covered at all bases if something were to go wrong with your card.

QFT. BFG is another brand recommended for much the same reasons. Not sure of their exact policies, but they at least have lifetime warranties, still putting them above MSI in that respect.

I had the same dilemma, then I decided what the hell, and purchased the MSI 8800gtx oc ( Similar price). The card works beautifully. The warranty is 'sub par'.... 3 years. I won't own this card it 3 years I'll be on the 10800gtx oc by then or the 4950xtx or whatever.

3 years in this hobby is a lifetime

Oh almost forgot - it comes with Dual Core monitoring software, all you have to do is select 'game' and it raises the core to 640 which is higher the the 8800 gtx ultra.

the term sub par is not only due to the warranty 'length' but what is covered in the warranty itself. If you were to overclock, swap coolers, change thermal paste, flash a different bios etc on your MSI that 3 year warranty would turn instantly into VOID.

Also keep in mind that XFX, eVGA, and BFG brands consistently resell higher on eBay and trading forums than other brands.

They warrant bios flashes now btw. The card even comes with a program that monitors the bios, drivers, and utils looking for newer versions. If there is a newer MSI bios, it will download it for you and ask if you want to flash your card. Just an fyi..

downloading official bioses is not what we are talking about, we are talking about custom made bioses where you can change clocks, voltages, mem timings, fan speed control etc to our own liking before flashing.

About MSI warranty service: Slow. As. Hell. Expect a three to four week turnaround time. They do not offer a cross-ship/express option, or at least they didn't.

It's price is about $40-50 cheaper than eVGA or BFG. Should I save the money now and not worry about the warranty? 3-year warranty is long enough because I will proberbly use this card for no more than 12 months. Buy the new one when it comes out. This is an overclock version, no need to overclock.

I'd still pay up. OCZ is an option as well, and they tend to price a little lower than EVGA.

This card comes oc'd - the ocz dosen't - we all know from our own experience that oc'ing is a crapshoot.

As for modifying bios, adding aftermarket cooling etc - most people don't do any of that - most people at hardocp don't even do it. Instead people will use ati tool, or whatever the current equivalent to coolbits is and that is the extent of the oc.

As for warranty - enthusiasts don't usually buy this type of card and then keep it more than 3 years. The only advantage I see is if a manufacturer cross ships - but then again, that is for only a very small fraction of cards - the vast amount of cards don't have issues and you don't need to use the warranty.

All of these cards are made buy the same manufacturer - that is right all of them, from all brands.

So it comes down to price - btw if you order from newegg and it is broken when you get it or soon afterwards, just send it back to newegg. They will handle it and you don't have to wait for a manufacturer.

My MSI 8800gtx OC runs exceptionally fast and powers my system quite smoothly. Heck even the monitoring software works with vista ultimate 64 bit.
